I thought it was more like State Armed Police --> CRPF --> BSF/SSB --> ITBP SSB is between BSF and ITBP, its a border force in high ranges with specific training for the same? The CRPF seems to be a similar unit, which is under the central government. Not exactly. Compared to the state armed police CRPF is better equipped, better organised and in most cases operates with better discipline. Being under the GoI does make a difference. Quality of officers right from the AC ...

Re: BSF,CRPF and other Paramilitary Forces Discussion.

Whatever the problems that characterize state police forces, it would be better to try to remove their inadequacies (to the extent possible) than to leave them out of the loop altogether. Using CPMFs (and even the Army) creates its own set of problems. Since the state police forces are from the same...

A few points: 1. The casualties suffered by the paramilitaries are largely due to IEDs. 2. The senior posts in the CPMFs are not entirely manned by IPS officers. There is a separate system of recruitment into paramilitary forces. A non-IPS officer in these forces may rise up to the level of ADG. How...

Sanjay, thanks a lot for the info. Another thing I wanted to ask was, that the terrain in the North East would create many 'blind' areas, would it not? So how does the IAF overcome it? More MOPs, or more radars? And then you have the Andamans. What sort of radars do we have there?

Regarding the MOPs, there was a newspaper report about 2 years ago, stating the IAF's reliance on MOPs. But, it implied that the problem had been sorted out, because it said something to the effect that IAF had resorted to this for a short while.
It was the TOI I think.

I think the MiG 27s & 23s(updated) were selected for this role. The Kh25 used to be(and most probably still is) the most widely issued anti radiation missile. It came with the MiG 27 deal, in the 80s,I think. Was supposed to be quite capable.

Re: Sensor capabilities of IAF aircraft

Tailchase range should be less because of lower RCS. In head on engagement the RCS is more because of the fan blades and all of the engines(they increase it considerably). So this should be reason for lower range in pursuit.
