The Greatest Story Ever Sold
Book review:
Leafed through it in B&N. Have not read it, but the thesis is that Church brand christianity (as opposed to following the life of Jesus) is just a commercial exploitation of Jesus right from the time of Romans.

Re: Indian History Discussions - III
The Sulekha article is great. The author also should have mentioned (or I must have missed it) that there many indications that Christ came to the himalayas during his lost years, (from age 13-30, during which period the Bible has no account of Christ). I have many books on Hindu saints. Swami Rama,...

Re: Why has it become so cool to hate India
Excellent. We need to throw out the foreign word caste. Use varnashrama and explain its meaning as it was meant to be explained (earlier post). Reading any kind of discrimimation into varnashrama is just plain lying. And then explain that unfortunately, thats exactly what many people in India did it...

Re: Why has it become so cool to hate India
chola: The varnashrama system does not say who is to decide who is greater than whom. All that is man-made. "Brahmins" of yore did their best to get this "hereditary" thing ingrained. And damn, they succeeded! "Low castes" have written some of hinduism's holiest books. ...

Untouchability is a crime and a sin. But for NG to not 1. point out the various things GoI is doing to remove the "caste" system 2. keep harping on the false definition of varnashrama by using phrases like "all men are not created equal" is tabloid journalism. Stinks of an agenda...

Yes, Vijay should have kept his mouth shut and went along just to be PC. He had no business saying anything about Sorenstam. But when the Western media takes anger against Vijay Singh's remarks out on India as a whole, that crosses the line. Blast the guy for what he said, not India. GoI etc did *no...

Nice, Arun! Everyone needs to be reminded : beating up on India, the country which has always been showing everyone the way, is both intellectually dishonest and also will not be tolerated.

There is something in what Victor has been saying about the NCC. All indians have got to get some kind of exposure to some defence-related outfit like that. Will reduce the incidence of ARoy-tolerators. Hey, even though I practically separated from physics/math and associated algorithms later, yours...

Re: Why has it become so cool to hate India
IMO the "wisdom" that had been taught to Indians (you are no good) has sunk in very deeply, and will take a generation to be shed. Like the old socialist policies have sunk in and are being shed slowly. Very few people want to think for themselves what is good for them. What is the need to...

(1) Why are you interested in defense/security issues, especially those relating to India? --India was the wealthiest nation in the world. Look what a weak/disorganized defense has done to us. Enough said. (2) How (or when) did you get interested in defense matters? --At 5 I began building and flyin...
