oh no hydrogen as well as oxygen is colorless -when any of the cryogenic propellant vents after filling and before launch it freezes the moisture and carbon di oxide in air and create dense white mist which in night launch on sodium light may seem orangish

high altitude test of cryogenic engine simulates the vacuum condition of space- by pumping out the exhaust gases during trail and monitoring how the engine performs including ignition .essentially made for much larger C-25 cryo engine was modified in record tme to take in smaller C-7.5 /12.

semi cryo is more complex not for chemistry but for the high design thrust - almost 10 times that of even C-20 engine that will power GSLV MK3. that necessitates a very high flow rate of liquid oxygen as well as ATF /jp1 -calling for very high pressure operation and system components to meet the hig...

c-20 is far more advanced and would have been ready for stage integration if not for delay in c-12 .if c-12 flies ok in august than within one year c-20 should be ready for engine and stage test

its difficult to give a time line at this point -since quite a few new technologies have to be developed that includes very high pressure lox systems the components the qualifying procedure etc etc . minimum 5 years would be a starting guess

C-20 engine first have to undergo thrust chamber test i think and then high altitude test of the complete stage which need be re configured to C-20 FROC-12 that will take some time .Semi cryo is still in advanced concept forming stage but will move fast

yes GSLV MK 3 will use fully indian cryo stage C 25 thatincludes engine turbo pumps propellant tanks etc. turbo pump testing is complete both liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen . thrust chamber testing delayed a bit becasue of C12 FOR MARK 2 high altitude test and should be on wa after GSLV mk 2 launch

correct it really delayed our geo synchronous program but the problem was not so much at making the engine rather at the cryogenic support technology which we had no experience but today most of it have been developed and perfected and hopefully the few bottlenecks will be cleared by this year end .
