Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread - August 9, 2014
The total in-service numbers for T-90 don't tie-up. There have been three contracts for T-90 since 2001 for 310, 330 and 347 tanks respectively with the last contract signed in 2007. Not sure how many completely manufactured tanks have been supplied by Avadi in addition to the above assembled kits. ...

Re: MBT Arjun - News and Discussions
I have known an ex-Army who has test driven the Arjun on multiple occasions (Vijayanta, 72 among others), and he was all praise for the handling (read steering, and bracking specifically) characteristics of Arjun as compared to the others. He went on to say that shifting gears is Makhan and very qu...

Re: MBT Arjun - News and Discussions
With my limited interaction with the 43 Armored Regiment, Arjun is a great tank and far surpasses any tank in the Indian inventory including T-90 (nothing we didn't know!) and all officers and soldiers vouch for the tank. With limited induction in the army a lot of internal opinions are based on new...

Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread
Another thing to take into context is that the reason why Armoured core officers have a high openion of T-90 is because most of them have very limited exposure to anything else (even Arjun) and compared to earlier generation equipment (T-55/Vijyanta/T-72) T-90 definately is better. Please remember t...

Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread
T-90 fits our current logistical footprint better mainly due to our transportation and existing engineering vehicles being configured for T-72's. However this can be remedied provided there are sufficient orders for Arjun.

Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread
T-90 is already in service like it or not. It fits well with our exiting logistical base. Arjun definately is a superior tank but that doesn't make T-90 a bad tank. The issue in IA has been lack of information on Arjun and lot of bad press throughout its early development cycle. I have heard many op...

I wonder if the troops are chary about carrying the INSAS. I have just returned from my unit and they are quite satisfied with the INSAS. I have heard no complaints. Ray Sir, I would believe there are varying opinions regarding a weapon system throught the Army. I believe it was wrong of me to use ...

Re: Small Arms Thread
Evidently, the INSAS is reliable and well regarded in single shot mode. Auto mode needs more work. Also some issue about positioning of scope and jam clearing which is a hassle which I have not yet fully understood. Watch this space. It would appear you can chuck an AK47 into the river come back 10...

Natasha has shut mouths of high commands and tied their hands with 'Ruble-Tapes'. Thats why there is news blackout about Arjun and no talks of comparative trials. Don't expect anything from army high command about Arjun. All this is being done for smooth orders of TIN-90. Well should we just stop t...

The Indian Army also has firmed up its requirements for more than 3,000 new-generation ATGMs to arm its T-72 and T-90 tanks and BMP-II infantry combat vehicles. The need to procure the new missiles has arisen because problems with the Nag ATGM, developed by India's Defence Research and Development ...

Only $3 million per chopper ... doesn't sound realistic ALH which is a light-medium helo itself costs something like $6-7 million per unit; so how is HAL to produce a heavier medium-lift helos for half that price??? Seems like a logical step to go towards tandem warhead missile, considering ERA equipped tanks are increasing with our adversaries. IA is already doing so with Konkurs-M and now Milan-2T. Actually the deal has been in the pipeline for quite a long time now since 2003 when the MoU was signed with EADS.

In the case of Arjun army has been behaving more in a 'group-think' attitude.
