Re: IRNSS Launch and Discussions
The US can selectively shut off or offset the signals in any particular part of the world if they so desire. In the Indo-Pak war / context they can do so to save their Paki munnas. This is why an Indian system is important for military purposes. Don't see it being used much in the civilian context u...

I agree completely. Too many arm chair generals on this forum who think they know better than the real generals. They hide behind their computers and make ignorant and unsubstantiated comments about the armed forces. Wish some of them would get off their butts and actually serve for a year or two so...

Add to that the fact that Iran can pretty much shut down the Straits of Hormuz by targetting shipping passing through there resulting in skyrocketing shipping insurance and oil over $200 a barrel which will send the already shaky world economy into a tail spin.

What is worse is that that IAF is now wary of using the helicopters after loosing two pilots in a crash due the cyclic saturation problem which has yet to be addressed and seems to have been swept under the carpet by HAL.

Saab still needs Uncle's permission to offer TOT for the engine and that is by no means certain. Given all the foot dragging over the LCA consultancy I wonder how much the US will allow especially if the F-18 loses.

The Chinese gave nuclear weapons to Pakistan when India didnt have a close relationship with the US. So to equate Chinese good behavior with Indian good behavior is ridiculous. As long as India doesnt become a poodle of the US (which I doubt will ever happen) I see no reason to not have a strategic ...

Kinda true, but at present, the X-band solid state tech is too challenging for a lot of countries, which is why they are still using L-bands, which makes the radar larger and more cumbersome... L-band is not really a breakthrough - it is a backup in absence of X-band tech. F22 and F35 are optimized...

Rafale F3 R$ 263 = 141 USD Gripen NG R$ 132 = 71 USD Super Hornet E/F R$ 188 = 101 USD The airforce says all three aircraft is suitable for them so it's all about a political decision now with focus on strategic plans and ToT. If I was Brazil I would go with the Grippen. 90% of the Rafale's capabil...

If it can outrun you and out maneuvere you, visually IDing it isnt going to be of much use.It stands out in the distance so visual ID is possible and feasible. That could be its weakest link in a large air-to-air engagement.

At this stage of aeronautical development the biggest weakness is in engines. We should go with the euro engine even if it costs more as it is more modern and they are offering a lot more TOT than the americans. Not to mention that it is lighter and being nearly the same weight as the current engine...

F-22s dont use towed decoys. Wouldnt be a stealth aircraft anymore. There are accounts of F-15 pilots being able to see the F-22 visually but not seeing it on their radar screens. If an F-15 radar cannot see it there is no way a small radar on the missile would see it.

In the 90s when the russians were broke and chummy with the US they actually sold a couple of the S300 systems directly to the US.
