Re: Human Trafficking Crisis in India

Mischa Glenny's McMafia gives a chilling account of the Israel hub of human trafficking - though on the flesh trade. The illegal organ trade is strong in Israel - even harvested organs from dead Hezbollah types. Anyway, till the 1985 ban, India was a source of skeletons and "human materials&quo...

Re: Personal Health, Nutrition and Fitness Thread

I remember the in-movie ad from Mel "Burn the Jews" Gibson's chick flick "What Women Want". You don’t stand in front of a mirror before a run…and wonder what the road will think of your outfit. You don’t have to listen to its jokes and pretend they’re funny. It would not be easie...

Re: Human Trafficking Crisis in India

Arab Sheikhs used to "import" kids and lightly built teens from TSP as jockeys for their camel races. The lives of these young ones are living hell. Certain countries such as the UAE banned these officially but there are many who flout the law. Wonder if some of the Indian kids ended up in...

That Kala-Yavana guy had intrigued me since I was a kid. Perhaps the only really exotic foreign actor in the Itihasa-Puranas. A huge host from the west (cryptically "West of the Indus") IIRC marching right across other kingdoms towards Mathura to join Jarasandha's and Sisupala's forces. So...

Re: Personal Health, Nutrition and Fitness Thread

Stuck at 80 bpm after a Half Marathon? That's not an un-TFTA heart rate - whats your resting heart rate then? I have RHR at around 50-60 and I get a nice decline from 140 (avg) to 60-70 after resting nearly hour after a 30-minute HIIT. I look forward to the day when I can meter 80-100 bpm after such...

The US under LBJ had fiddled with the Sentinel and Safeguard "Thin-Line Defense" system that were "solely" to protect their own silos and not the cities during a less-than-massive attack. Then thre was a move in the early 70s to have BMDs for protecting only NCAs! Now all these c...

Re: Deterrence

It has screwed up the country’s deterrence posture. Does it now? While there is a bit of information from US BMD-waalahs on why they should pursue BMD w.r.t to Deterrence Posture we haven't seen that level of (public domain) information of BMD in Indo-Pak (forget Indo-China for now) context. A lot ...

There was the sneaking in of Corn Syrup as "Corn Sugar" - which was thankfully shot down by the US Courts. The Big Food guys from Archer-Midland and Monsanto tried to ram in this thin edge of the wedge after the public image of corn syrup took a great hit. BTW, SDREs had been refining suga...

Continuing of Rudradev's and Agnimitra's points, in Pakistan's case I am not so sure if we could make a distinction on where the ideological touchstone ends and where "immediate reality" (which is again perception based) begins. First of all we are not entirely sure if it's Army or Allah w...
