There are very few areas that the US is interested in that is without a US presence and out of reach of a USMC MEU.

Another fast reply.

Sir,

You're looking at the wrong branch for the initial entry force. Though the USArmy is trying to build that capability. More likely than not, the 1st American force on the ground in an unantincipated action would be a Marine Expeditionary Unit (battalion size).

Sir, I will post a much more detailed reply later but some quick thoughts. 1) Good warfighters make good peacekeepers/enforcers. Good peacekeepers/enforcers make dead warfighters. 2) Helos are not a replacement for tanks. They are extremely vulnerable to a ground based AD net. 3) Helos cannot do dan...

The Boer War was 1899-1902. Not sure how to answer you second question. Alot of the Boer War theories were borned out of the American Civil War. As for number of guns: 100 guns is at: 100 or more artillery guns to provide support to three infantry battalions as opposed to the Western doctrine of 64 guns for three infantry units. That is wrong for Western doctrine. An artillery battalion (4 batteries of 4-6 guns each) is the standard for a b...

That's very interesting, since from what I've been tracking about Indian defence purchases and doctrine, the IA is attempting to get the IAF to provide Close Air Suppor and is also relying on artillery. The "100 gun" concept. Assuming the use of both, it would appear that India should hav...

Col. Wyu, the Chinese doctrine of 'War Zone Campaign' you describe seems more similar to the Soviet system of 'Deep Battle' than to the U.S./Western model of 'AirLand Battle'. I believe you've misunderstood. 100 guns are too many guns. For a bde size "Integrated Battle Group", you need no more than a battalion (4 batteries of 4 to 6 guns each). Anymore than that, then you will have idle guns because the front line inf would already be too busy directing the guns...
