Re: Is it too early to end Jaguar Production line??

I think I should take responsibility for the Hawk tangent. That certainly wasn't my intention. The only point I was trying to make is that the single-role Jaguar has outlived its design. The Hawk is quite far from ideal, BUT is a more credible type if it was numbers that we were after, in light to a...

Re: Is it too early to end Jaguar Production line??

Cybaru Multirole is not maritime strike vs. DPSA. Multirole entails A2G as well as A2A capability. The Jaguar is too sluggish to perform A2A work. And as Arun said, the wisdom of procuring single-role aircraft to replace multi-role squadrons is questionable at, best. If we really wanted to optimize ...

Re: Is it too early to end Jaguar Production line??

The point is not Hawk vs Jaguar or Trainer vs DPSA. It has everything to do with what you can do with the airframe and how you optimize it. No matter what you do to the Jaguar airframe you will never turn it into a multi-role aircraft. The Hawk airframe offers many other possibilities. Remember that...

Re: Is it too early to end Jaguar Production line??

The Jag's biggest drawback is it's inability to fulfil multi-role tasks. However, consider that now that we have a production line up and running for the Hawk, we now have a rather more versatile aircraft which could be built in larger numbers.

Rahul If you recall, at the first sign of trouble, scores of IrAF's best aircraft (MiG-29s, Su-24, Mirage F-1, Adnan, etc.) headed for Iran. That is unlikely to happen in Pakistan. Also note that Iraq's holding of medium SAMs (and density of deployment) far exceeded that of Pakistan. That aside, yes...

You raise very valid concerns, Rahul. The Dhruv and Lancer (to a limited extent) are built to be as survivable as possible with protection against small arms fire and automated countermeasures. Nothing is ever foolproof and aircraft will be lost. Compared against the capability offered by an Su-7 or...

Re: Is it too early to end Jaguar Production line??

The Jag was never designed for close air support, it was meant for interdiction. It was bought to fill the DPSA requirement, whereas the MiG-23BN/27 were bought to fill a TASA requirement. The IAF has always complained that in 1971, the Army was calling in air strikes for tasks that could be better ...

No matter what the growth rate is, the investments (of some $100 Billion) are a stand-alone investment - in addition to the normal FDI. That is the expectation or assumption. Originally yes. The target imitator acts as an IR cue not a radar cue. This is a later devlopment. But the bulk of IR SAMs with the Army/AF also require a visual cue.

The towed unit can provide all types of cues.
