Re: J & K news and discussion
Instead of using words that are names, for example, RSS, can we use generic terms, such as supremacist organizations? This way, Somnath can make a point and those who believe that RSS is a supremacist organization will know whom to think of and those who don't, will think of some other organization....

RayC: Therefore, neither the majority of Indians understand the Kashmiris nor do the Kashmiris understand those from mainland India. My comment may sound OT, but it isn't. Can India settle Hindu and Sikh refugees from Pakistan in the Kashmir Valley, under Army protection? What's the point then? They'll have to live in constant fear. I don't think there's any Indian law that allows foreigners to settle in any part of India without due process. And if due process takes...

Advani's statement: I conceive that there would be a time when decades hence, both the countries would feel that partition has not solved matters. I disagree with this. (a) He seems to be implying that both sides wanted partition. In reality, only one did. Those who remained or resettled in India di...

I think the term can be applied to India, Sri Lanka and BD. Out of these, India is perhaps the fastest growing.
I am not quite sure about this assertion.then the term cannot be applied to South Asia. It can only be used for India.

I am not being insensitive here nor minimizing the sacrifices of the soldiers but the preference for the use of man-power over air-power may have something to do with the labour-intensive nature of Indian work-practices in general. Perhaps someone who has access to training costs versus equipment co...

Harbans ji, My point is not the fear of ridicule but trying to understand that a follower of the book will react violently and the approach will only backfire because he believes that the book was written on god's orders. What I see going wrong in attacking someone's holy book is that the followers of the book see the book as a revelation from god him/it/herself. If you attack them this way you give them the right to ridicule your religion. "You think going round and round a temple 108 times will free you of sin...

RG just got some landslide sympathy vote, and that's all. Sympathy vote alone wasn't it. There was a palpable feeling those days that India was taken over by terrorists and something had to be done to fix it. He was never strong on national security, and didn't have the background for it. J&K w...

I have a tiny question. Don't all these waivers and treaties hold good only for Earth? I am thinking that despite being aware of China's nuke capabilities, it took India ("if not today then tomorrow") more than 10 years to conduct her first test and then more than twenty for the second rou...

Not sure if this is the right thread, but is it possible that chinese belligerence on the border is to scare us enough to sign the 123 deal and yet at the same time use its agents in india to drum up opposition so that the GOI believes firmly that 123 deal is indeed good. I see this as an extremely petty behaviour, not a recognition of puppet and king. They claim to have a great civilization, but all that I know of them is piracy, bullying and racist behaviour. If copying and piracy were their major traits in the past then one has to ask whether all their so-called i...

One thing I do not understand, in a place like Afghanistan you have so many targets. It seems like we are the softest target out there...

I believe a discussion on road discipline should be a part of a roads thread.
