Re: HAL's Light Observation Helicopter (LOH)
Hi,
Salman, you may be right, but being a teetoler I can't take you up on the 6-pack.
BTW, what exactly is a "light observation helo"? what is the intended market/user? FAC/FAO for the IA or as a scout for the ALH based LAH? I would have thought that the ALH itself would have been the ...

Re: HAL's Light Observation Helicopter (LOH)
Hi,
Salman, they all tend to look a little similar, look at the Bo 105 for instance. Its more a case of similar requirments, similar designs.
I second you on your other point, we seem to have way too many aviation projects on our hand than we can possibly complete.
Re: HAL's Light Observation Helicopter (LOH)
Hi,
Shiv, thanks for bringing it to our attention.
1. How does a bearingless rotor work?
2. Any speculations as to what this "unannounced helicopter for the armed forces" is?
3. Why announce the project and provide no details at all? If the project was so classified then why ack...

Re: Understanding Air Operations in Kargil
Hi,
Shiv, it is indeed possible we did not use FAEs. Windy conditions that are encountered at the altitude could have precluded their use as well as the proximity of our own troops to the areas to be hit (FAEs tend to be more of an area weapon). If wind was the reason that deterred us from using t...

Re: Understanding Air Operations in Kargil
Hi,
Excellent discussion everyone.
Prasad, it is a matter of how much you want to spend on the helicopter. It is possible to equip them with Chaff/flare rigs much like conventional aircraft. Anti Laser Aerosol dispensing systems are also available for use on choppers.
Ved, salman, shiv, was FA...

Re: Tech.Info.3/T-80UD/T-90/Arjun Mk.I
Hi,
peeyoosh, Yes American tanks use DU core rounds (the APFSDS round). Americans had a large quantity of DU which was a by product of plutonium warhead production and used it extensively for AP work both in M1s and A-10As. The russians on the other hand prefer using Tungsten cored AP rounds as th...

Hi,

Salman, remind me not to waste any more money on military reference books http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/ubb/smile.gif
About your point three (posted 12:08). If you replace the suspension, engine, armour, gun, turret, fcs whats left of the old tank? Reminds me of that old folk tale - pat...

Re: Tech.Info.2/INSAS System
Badar, the infantry man's rifle is NOT an area weapon. All infantry men are trained to aim and shoot and make every shot count. A carbine or submachine gun on the other hand is designed to "spray" bullets and is an area weapon. A 3 round burst provides enough spread to be lethal without b...

Re: Tech.Info.2/INSAS System

Know how I can get one?
R Sukumar, contact your friendly neighbouthood ISI agent http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/ubb/smile.gif
And as your statistics point out, a rifle to an infantry man in not a precision weapon, but an area ...
