Re: Civil Aviation Flight Safety

Design load factors are based on experience, AFAIK - 3.0 to 3.5 for civilian craft, but much higher for combat aircraft. The factor is equal to the max lift divided by the weight. For instance, if you pull a 60 degree-banked turn and insist on keeping the aircraft at the same altitude, and if L is ...

Re: Indian Military Aviation

Maybe it has been discussed before: sometime back there was talk of US offering F-16 and F-18's. Have we expressed interest in A-10? It is a tank buster for sure and do you think that it will serve a good role in our scenario? Thanks.. The A-10 hasn't been in production in two decades, and the USAF...

Classy. When I sometimes wonder why I don't read the forum as much as the rest of this site, it doesn't take long to find a reminder.

I'm a NRI trying to find a way into the IAF/Navy flying branch. The attache in DC was not helpful so I was wondering if I could get any tips here. I'm a BS Physics/BS Math, and I will probably be a instrument rated private pilot at the time of application. I missed the minimum height by .5cm or so, ...

I do not know if this qualifies as simulated crash situation training, but US pilots are taught to recover from unusual attitudes all tihe time as part of instrument rating training and recurrent training. Inability to correct qucikly will result in spiral dive etc. which wiil certainly result in a...

I had also seen an investigation in which the aircarft was flying with full fuel but after half the journey....the pilots still kept calm and they did something never done before.the plane was gliding for the rest of the journey and they did succeed in landing the plane without any loss of lives.th...

Probably, good point. I'm guessing the military brats don't have nearly the restrictions the rest of us have to face

Is there any way to take the CDSE abroad? I tried to get into the Air Force academy but I slimly missed the height. I'm still bitter about it, but I'd like to take the CDSE before I'm 23, and I'm hoping if I build up enough flight hours in my private time, they'll consider my flight experience and e...

You should never never never be landing in tailwind conditions to begin with. Not quite - while its always recommended to land into wind for obvious reasons, there may be many reasons while this may not be possible/advisable at times. All aircraft have a permissable tailwind as well as cross wind l...

Those are things a pilot can't control, but the sad truth remains that most accidents occur from pilot error. Why the pilot didn't spot the pitot malfunction is beyond me, and making poor judgements like that need to be stopped, especially with the A380s flying around soon!

You should never never never be landing in tailwind conditions to begin with. Tailwind means wave off and come from the other side. It isn't entirely the pilot's fault, but more caution should be advised. Most crashes occur from pilot error of some degree so if it doesn't affect civilian flying or i...
