Re: Sensor capabilities of IAF aircraft

nitin, As far as I know, all Jaguars have always had the capabilities to _launch/drop_ LGBs, what was lacking was the ability to independently designate the target. Another aircraft (in the case of the IAF - a M2K) will 'paint' the target with his laser, the Jaguar has a LRMTS that detects this lase...

Re: Sensor capabilities of IAF aircraft

Harry, I agree, about the only thing the Super 530F and Super 530D share is the basic aerodynamic configuration. The 530D uses an all-digital guidance system with and is much better at intercepting low-flying targets. The reason I asked what was version carried was exactly that. All info I have says...

Re: Sensor capabilities of IAF aircraft

Nitin, You're right about the Indian M2Ks having the RDM radar with a continuous wave illuminator instead of the RDI. This is significantly inferior to the RDI, but is still superior to any other Indian fighter radar of it's class. Can you verify which is the exact version of the Super 530 carried b...

Re: TSP: Al-Khalid MBT rolls out

Just a small point, turbine engines (like those used in the M1 Abrams) can run on virtually any fuel - right from jet fuel to petrol, diesel and kerosene.
The engine performance is similar with all the fuels, but jet fuel makes the engine last longer.
as a side note Su-25s are designed to run di...

Re: Can IAF Mig-27s do high-altitude bombing?

Michael & harry,
Operational experience has shown that the Stinger is a far worse performer than expected. For example, just look at Kargil, of the many Stingers fired at Indian AF aircraft, only two scored hits. When the IAF downed the Atlantic 1 aircraft in the Rann of Kutch, helicopters car...

Re: Indian Nuclear Weapons FAQ

I think we'd have to rethink the lo-level capability of the Mirage 2000's in the IAF. They are basically Mirage 2000C's optimised for the fighter role rather than the low-level strike role performed by the French Mirage 2000N. without the terrain following radar of the -N the pilot would be forced t...

Re: RAW, Mossad developing strong strategic relations

It is quite common for allied countries to allow use of their airbases to each other. The best example is Canada and the NATO countries. Canada has demarked a huge area of it's territory as being purely for the training of NATO combat aircraft. Believe it or not, in terms of area, this training grou...

Re: Harrier vs Mirage V/III

The INs Sea Harriers don't have BVR capability. They are the FRS.Mk 51 variant which can only fire IR homing Magic II AAMs. Only the Royal navy's FRS.Mk 2 and the USMCs AV-8B Harrier II Plus (also used by Italy) have a BVR AAM capability (firing AIM-120A AMRAAMs)

(a) what kind of ECM devices do they have and what are their aircraft that have it ?
The older F-16s can only carry jamming devices externally, but the newer F-16s have internal jamming pods. I think that their A-5 & A-5Ms (Pakistani versions of Chinese Q-5/Q-5M) have provision for jamming po...

Re: Understanding Air Operations in Kargil

A couple of clarifications,
1)
The Antilope terrain following radar *is* used on IAF Mirage 2000s. The Mirage 2000Hs used by the IAF are derived from the Mirage 2000C interceptor and the Mirage 2000N-K2 low-level strike aircraft. The main difference is that the M2000H is a single seat variant o...
