Re: Indian Railways Thread (Dec 2015)

You need to privatize only the services like trains, stations perhaps food and services. Tracks, signaling, etc will be govt owned which will be used by private operators on payment of charges. Just like it is stupid for say Air India to run everything like planes, services, airports, ATC, hotels, e...

Re: Indian Railways Thread (Dec 2015)

Besides IR is burdened with too many things with the result that it does none very efficiently. If we can have private buses, ships and planes there is no reason why we can't have private railways.

Like JNU many levers of power did not/has not changed much even with change in govt twice. The old guards vigorously defend their turf. Academia/media/services have not changed much. Re: Pakistani Economic Stress Watch

Here is a video that explains what is going to happen next. I won't be surprised if most of these happen. If they try to sell Gilgit-Baltistan to China India should invade. The other posssibility that they don't mention is that China may get sucked into an economic quagmire and ruin its own economy....

Re: 2019 General Elections News and Discussion

The next phases are the most crucial as except KL BJP cannot afford to underperform in these phases as these are happening in areas where they are relatively strong. I think the real election for BJP starts now and it is too early to predict a victory from just sweeping a few seats in WB or KA.

Growth alone, although important, is not going to help. You have got to divert their attention with constant pressure from multiple fronts. Keep them on tenterhooks. Exploit their internal squabbles. That is how the Soviets and Yugoslavia collapsed.

Unusual silence among my friends and family in WB about elections. When I meet them personally most are in anti-incumbency zone. Are we going to see a Pokhran? Bringing in Ferdous and other Bdeshi stars for campaigning suggests Mamata is now desperately dependent on the illegal Bdeshi Muslim vote.

This is in Bengali and unknown channel to me. Their survey (seat by seat) is saying BJP 20, TMC 18, INC 3, Left 1 in WB. I don't expect the left to win any seat. They are giving both seats to BJP in phase 1 with comfortable margins.

Re: 2019 General Elections News and Discussion

PP update. Modi has very strong support among OBCs throughout the electorate. OBCs are nearly 45% and largest block among Hindus after Marathas were added to it.

Ramana, no more on Naidu but my concern is to not leave the field open for EJs.

Added later. see Rahul's post above.
