Re: GST - Discussion on all aspects.

Not clear. This is from twitter. Have to wait for news reports. But prediction is crossing 1 lakh crore by end of fiscal. Also the tax base has increased according to the CEA (see above). How much will be known by end fiscal. My estimate is GST will be nearly 8-10% of GDP. This will be without reven...

The next big reform left is labor - the big moo moo.

Rest is mostly dependent on the states to improve ease of business ratings e.g. construction permits. Are their ease of business ratings for Indian states? If not it should be started.

Re: GST - Discussion on all aspects.

I think regular customers do understand what price they paid and what they are paying now. Most customers will be informed that tax has gone down. Unless they form a cartel all over India competition is going to defeat price gougers as there will be many who will pass on the price cut. It is the sam...

Re: GST - Discussion on all aspects.

GST rates are not codified. The Congress and very specifically Rahul Gandhi and Chidambaram wanted a fixed 18% rate which was rejected. 3-4 slabs is not earth shattering. IT has 4 slabs. Obviously you are not going to tax khakra and Mercedes under the same rate. In the previous regime there were nea...

Re: GST - Discussion on all aspects.

Tax regime is expected to be rationalized once system settles down and numbers are known. Without numbers these types of discrepancies will occur as neither state nor central govt will want revenue loss. Also GST regime is determined by both state and central govts with different parties. So this co...

Re: GST - Discussion on all aspects.

Current GST recovery is equivalent to 170 billion dollars annually. But reports suggest only 65% have paid up. Which means one-third is still to come. This will take the numbers to 10% of GDP. If IT is taken as nearly 3% of GDP and 1-2% coming from other sources tax to GDP ratio should be nearly 15%...

Football update

U18 AFC cup India failed to qualify but did well except one match against Saudi's which they lost 5-0. Beat Turkmenistan 3-0 and drew with Yemen 0-0.
U16 AFC cup India qualified. Beat Palestine 3-0, drew with Iraq and Nepal 0-0, 2-2.

Both AFC cups lead to the world cup.

Re: GST - Discussion on all aspects.

To be fair to them they had no idea as to the level of tax evasion and there was fear of loss of revenue. Now that they have an idea of amount of tax collection they can re-evaluate taxation rates. Now they need to decide on petroleum products and alcohol and further prune the 18%, 28%, cess rates.
