Chetak,

What you are saying is not a failure of GST. It just means crooks have other ways of being crooks. So it cannot be a critique of GST. Between crooks and the system it is a constant battle like encryption and hacking. There is no single silver bullet to kill corruption.

Re: Indian Economy News & Discussion - Aug 26 2015

Chetak,

With GST this is no longer possible. Even if you buy 10 crore of gold jewellery you have already paid tax at the source. So the seller will loose money if he sells with kaccha bill.

Re: Indian Economy News & Discussion - Aug 26 2015

Philip, nothing to cry about. Was in a jewellery shop in Kolkata on a recent trip. Customer asked for kaccha bill. Jeweller politely told him no kaccha bill anymore. The system of tax evasion worked with collusion between both seller and buyer. Buyer was not innocent as he/she would like to save a f...

Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry

The forward line except Gurjant looked clueless and unimaginative. The defense made of juniors looked OK except that mistake which cost the goal. They may have to bring in the likes of Talvinder, etc from the junior forward line to the senior team.

As long as Doval is there you can keep conspiracy theories locked in a cupboard and sleep well at night. It just means India will solve it by herself. No outside mediation required. That has been the standard Indian position since long. One can only guess what that solution means. I would say it means total integration.

Re: The Rohingya Menace

The SC has done a trapeze act - balancing both sides. So you can deport Rohingyas but in a humanitarian way. The important part is that the petition was filed to stay deportation and that has not been granted. The language used by the SC is neither here nor there. Now it is upto the govt to solve th...

Re: Indian Economy News & Discussion - Aug 26 2015

You are trying to do Bharatnatyam with your arguments. The public is as much corrupt as the system. It is someone's brother, uncle, father-in-law, etc which makes the system. Someone needs to clean-up. A politically astute person will be able to convey to the public why he is doing what he is doing....

NRC update is a more authentic document to prove citizenship and is being used in AS to detect illegals. To have your name in NRC you have to prove using documents your lineage as a citizen over a time period e.g. in case of AS from I believe 25th March, 1971. Voter cards, pan cards, Adhaar cards ar...

Re: Indian Economy News & Discussion - Aug 26 2015

From where are these job losses numbers coming from? India has very limited employment data. Big companies can report job losses but 200 big companies are not going to employ a nation of 1.3 billion. It will come from lakhs of small and medium sized companies. So flawed argument based on little data.

When you update the NRC you will just match that database with Adhaar and delete their names permanently from records. You can prepare another database wit...

I don't think you have followed the issue very closely. Rohingyas have not been given rights since independence and do not have Myanmarese citizenship. They don't believe they are from Burma. They are trying to expel them from Myanmar. The method is to shake the can once in a while so that some crab...

Making it tri-lateral and developing Rakhine to help Rohingyas are none of India's business. The problem is between Myanmar and Bdesh. India is simply a victim of spill over. Asking Myanmar to take back the Rohingyas from Bdesh which they don't want to do will make it more difficult to repatriate Ro...
