Re: Women's status in Indian society
I too grew up in New Delhi. And all that's been said about Delhi is correct. To add to Rahul's post, eve-teasing is not just about making a comment on a pretty face, but also about the power the eve-teaser feels. So not only is resorting to mob-mentality harmful eventually, it is pretty certain that...

Re: Women's status in Indian society
How are these figures arrived at?
There are 24*60*60 seconds in a day.
14 seconds --> 1 woman
means
24*60*60 ---> 24*60*60/14 women a day
= 6171 (approx)
There are 365 days in a year.
Means last year 6171 * 365 = 2.25 million women were beaten.
Is that so?

Re: Women's status in Indian society
I must comment upon the wording of this topic. There is no such thing as "The Status" of women in our society at least. If you'll notice the results of various kinds of surveys taken in US, they say things like 18% of blacks do something 34% of whites do something else 2% of black literate...

Re: Indianness - a (simple?) survey
To attempt to define Indian-ness is to attempt to define the boundaries for a certain percentage of the human population and consequently expect them to be constrained by them.
Just be yourself. Then if the other person sees you as Indian or Srilankan, it is a reflection of his/her limitations.

Re: N-Doctrine: Discussions Only. Please no news posts
Openly, we will say no first use, but in
reality, it will be launch on signal. This gives us excuse to use our missiles, at any given time, in confrontation with anybody.
Agree with that.
However, there mustn't be anything open or secretive about it. The NFU policy may be slightly redefine...

Re: N-Doctrine: Discussions Only. Please no news posts
Hello,
I have a proposal for what I have chosen to christen Improvisable Nuclear Doctrine or IND .
The salient feature of IND will be its flexibility. IND will have programmed into it the age-old law of human behaviour - do unto others as they do unto you. Thus an adversary with NFU policy will...
