There is no clear proof that smoking engine was ever a problem in air combar. While not justifying the obvious design flaw in a smoky engine ,in vietnam F-105 did not smoke but still faired very badly against migs and had to be relocated to safer skies over south Vietnam form north vietnam.F-4 serie...

Hi Philip - Good to hear your thoughts...I would respectfully disagree however that there is a 'concerted' hard-sell by the US on the F-18. The USG doesn't get involved in a case at this level unless there is a 'single' US vendor...even the Office of Defense Co-operation at the Embassy is neutral at...

Hi Philip - To be honest, I seriously doubt whether there is some deep conspiracy within the US government to favor the F-18 over the F-16. At this commercial and requirements-definition level, the USG is too disjointed for any such integrated machinations. Lockheed Martin is too savvy for that, and...

Vishnu - Nice to hear your report. I want to fly in one of these jets too, other than being an analyst on the subject, I have to figure out my USP to get in! On a serious note, I am drawn to the fact that this is a Block 50, with a clear competitive disadvantage over what you saw when you flew an F-...

Prithvi ABM test
How many nations have this kind of program? how many nations have a working demonstration forget about fielded systems? That is DRDO's achievement! Look boys what DRDO is saying is simple, why pay so much for a foreign system that everyone knows will not work when push comes to shove? Why not inves...

Re: India's missile defence - Arrow vs. S-300
There has been a series of reports in the Indian press about a delegation led by Mr. Sheelkant Sharma to be in DC Jan 15-16 to discuss the Arrow.
Now, I hear that the delegation is not coming:-)
Does anyone know the actual fact of whether there is a delegation or not?

Re: India's missile defence - Arrow vs. S-300
Quite a debate on this topic. In spite of the resistance from State, I think an Arrow sale will happen - the Pentagon in firmly behind it. The process will have to be carefully managed. Didn't the Phalcon sale get cleared last year? I thought that it was... And to Harry - despite whatever you may th...

India's missile defence - Arrow vs. S-300
Hi - I've been off the forum for a while, so I'm sorry if this topic has been recently discussed. Given the recent traffic on Indian-related Web sites about the State Dept. momentarily blocking the sale of the Arrow missile defence system, I would like to hear thoughts on whether the Indian military...

Re: News, Reports and Analysis: LCA
Correction, KD Nair claims the LCA will be operational in 3-4 years. Which one is closer to the truth??

Also, Athre makes the astounding claim that Airbus Industrie is using HAL software for the Airbus A3XX project!
Anyone, is this really true? Or is he just the classic Indian bureaucrat in ...
