Re: Possible Indian Military Scenarios - XII

Shankar, QUOTE Two of the F-16 died quickly and easy as they flew into the kill envelope of R-27 fired in pairs, simply there was no escape zone . Two orange flowers bloomed almost simultaneously against blue sky background. The other two escaped the first salve and fired their own sparrow as the di...

Re: Military Humor and related

General (later Field Marshal) KM Cariappa, while talking in Hindi had a tendency to translate English words too literally. He was visiting 50 Para Brigade at Naushera, whose Commander, Brigadier Usman was to be given an opportunity to recapture Jhangar. Addressing the troops, the General wanted to r...

Re: Possible Indian Military Scenarios - XII

".....The 40 mm Gatling gun started its macabre statco burst..." Shankar, Just a minor technicality, Bofors 40L60 is too heavy to use a Gatling type rotating multi barrel mechanism. The gun is a single barrel piece with a magazine on top. USAF AC 130 also mounts two M61 Vulcan 20 mm guns o...

Re: Possible Indian Military Scenarios - XII

For the Chinese it meant holding off the units of the Indian XV Corps trying to take these passes and instead moving ground troops and vehicles northwards to ultimately capture the entire tract all the way up to Chushul. Vivek, Shouldn't it be XIV corps based at Leh? XV corps is based in Srinagar an...

Re: Newbie Corner & Military Miscellaneous

I'm glad the Fin Ministry finally stepped in and put an end to the EXTORTION racket that is the gorshkov deal. If the extortion is going on now, you can only imagine what kind of extortion awaits when spare parts are needed or if war breaks out. Ask for a refund now and cut it loose. Put the money ...

I would humbly like to point out to the critics of Shankar and Vivek (although he is presently silent, preparing his book) that what they are creating is a scenario and not a wargame. Their scenario is that if we have the right doctrine, strategy, material and training, we can overcome a bigger adve...

Shankar,
Graet Scenario so far. But can Car Nic AFB handle one Sqn of Su 30MKI and another of Jaguar? The logistic facilities appear austere at best unless there has been a substantial upgrade recently. And if so, will it escape notice of the Chinese?

The scenario of IAF SU 30 MKI defending an Awacs from PLAAF J-11's by Shankar reads much better compared to a similar scenario in Tom Clancy's Bear and the Dragon. Congratulations Shankar, and if you decide to publish this as a book, I'll be the first one to buy it.

Igorr,
Thanks for the clarification. I was confused because the Israeli website showed a Il 76 with no visible rotodome as the Indian Awacs.

Igorr,
According to www.israeli-weapons.com, Indian airforce phalcons have conformal fugelage mounted radar arrays and not rotodome types. Are your photos of actual IAF Phalcons or classic Mainstays?

For all the critics of Shankar's last scenario, According to Federation of American Scientists, Akula performance is Max Speed: 28-35 kt submerged. Max Diving Depth: 1475 feet= 465.8 m. Crush Depth 622 - 682 m. Chinese Navy operates on centralised comand & control so all the subs will be within ...

Sudhanshu, Kilo at 7 Kt and Akula at 15 kt- Detection probability in my opinion is even money. Also, the Akula was tracking the Kilos before it was detected. The idea probably is to spook the Kilos into attacking you rather than the career. Since Akula has a greater speed and diving depth, the chanc...

Well, Shankar did complete the earlier ones. Before he quit, he did inform us that he had some visits comming up and some other commitments. Then at the same time, Vivek's scenario came on the scene. Backgrounds are essential otherwise how do you know where you are headed. See any book by Tom Clancy...

Dear Vivek & Shankar, There are a few geographical errors in your posts. 1. "Tawang was the terminal junction for the main railway line..." (Vivek's post 18th April.) There is no train link to Tawang and is not likely to be in the foreseeable future due to the mountainous terrain. 2. &...

Shankar,

"In his mind he could see the president pinning on the shaan e pakistan award on his chest after he has managed to sink the satans symbol of power with a surprise strike ."

Suggest Nishan e Haider - Highest gallantry award of Pakistan.

Terrific going.

Shankar, To my knowledge, a parachute is essential for aerial torpedo drops not only to protect the fusing and sensor mechanisms but also to ensure that the homing head is kept pointed downwards to detect the target noise. In case of surface or submarine launch this is not essential since the torp c...

Shankar, Although ASW helos and aircrafts theoritically can carry a heavyweight torpedo, they never do in practice because the associated parachute gear needed to drop the torp would not fit into the weapons bay. Dropping the torp by winch from a helo is also not feasible.

Shankar's post on 2nd Nov.

Hi Shankar, this is Dhruvarka, a new member. I am reporting a typo / tech error on your post. Mk48 ADCAP is launched from SSN/SSBN only and not from Helicopters. You probably meant Mk 46 or Mk50 ALWT. Correct me if I am wrong.
