Re: Pakistan Nuclear Proliferation - 14 Jan 2003

The latest push that the Paki nukes are stored in Chagai Hills, home territory of the fundoos is something that is worth thinking about. It could give a whole new meaning to nuclear proliferation.

Vikram, I think its safe to assume that if the IAF wanted secrecy they wouldn't have invited reporters...unless they signed some confidentiality agreements.

One of the (many) news reports mentions that the IA will get 2 'refurbished' WLRs from the US by this fall as a stop-gap(?).

Excellent!

Needless to say, the LCH is different from the earlier LAH design in that its ALH lineage is easily seen. The quirks mentioned should be ironed out as the design moves forward.

Re: Role of armed helicopters in army operations

Let me make a few points, most relating to attack helicopters: - MANPADS usually have stated ranges in the 5-7km range, but will almost always be used within line of sight of the operator. Most attack helos are capable of attacking armour formations at ranges greater than the line of sight of a sold...

Yeah, the Shaheen-II and similar ChiCom missiles seem to use the MAZ-547V type of transporter. But, the larger DF-31 range missiles (as I posted above) look to be based on a truck/transport chassis.

The Chinese seem to have gone with a truck chassis (with whitewalls), even though I am pretty sure they've imported MAZ transports in the past.

My understading was that the LAH would be based on the ALH (enough abbreviations?). The evolution being somewhat similar to Huey --> Cobra and SA330 Puma --> Rooivalk.
