Re: Artillery Discussion Thread

Can't imagine BSF chauki's needing that feature. Its likely that there's more volume of 12.7mm ammo in the IA logistics than 23mm I think he was mentioning why 20mm vs 23mm, not .50cal. That said, the NTW-20 does seem much heavier than its contemporaries to begin with I think it is not. The only th...

Re: INS Vikramaditya: News and Discussion

Not sure if below Video was posted here... good watch What is to note is that the Mig-29K is able to take off from the flat runway and not the Ski-jump(1:20). This means there is lot of reserve power in the engine that can translate to the Mig's taking off with a very heavy load. Later: Wait, was i...

Re: LCA News and Discussions, 22-Oct-2013

Put as many Spectras and Micas as you want. It can't carry the same payload as 4-6 LCAs. Also ANY adversary will choose to fight 1 Rafale than 4-6 LCAs. Heck nobody wants to fight 4-6 JF-17s. I think I have a case against your argument Indranil saab. Typical strike missions involve quick penetratio...

No.
And going by the same logic, India should not cry foul when they completely ignore India's concerns and start selling to Pak and China. Including the cruise missiles, N Subs and Cheap frigates.

Better penetration is not the same as better stopping power. The cartridge is ideal for COIN, and other CQB scenarios but for QRT type situations, it would call for a higher caliber round.

Maybe like this?

I think the cannon placement has to do with the ability to fire while pulling up or pushing down in a dog fight.
An interesting thing I found just out is that the GSH-23L can also fire flares.

Re: Small Arms Thread

First, the reason why OFB had to develop a special 5.56x30 mm. cartridge is because they couldn't get it to fire the (originally planned) 5.56x45 mm. cartridge that the rest of the INSAS family uses, without a lot of flash. Hence, they were forced to shorten the cartridge and reduce its power a bit...
