Re: LCH and other Helicopters Discussion Thread

That is more circumstantial than technical Das Saab.
Platform aside, I am not sure where Dhruv and LCH have different operational doctrines going by sattili ji's assersion.

Re: LCH and other Helicopters Discussion Thread

Thanks for the insight. While flight testing the Light Combat Helicopter, a modified version of HAL Dhruv, the Indian Army came to the conclusion that without making any major modifications to the Dhruv air-frame, an armed variant can also be developed and delivered to the army quickly. This variant...

Re: LCH and other Helicopters Discussion Thread

I kind of felt so too when I read about dedicated squadrons of Rudra. And these are attached to individual corps along with other types of heli squadrons. But your point sounds more apt for LCH then Rudra. Having a huge number of specialized choppers is hard to afford for IA in my opinion and I thou...

Re: LCH and other Helicopters Discussion Thread

Interoperability? Does it make sense for stripping something specialized & using them in a conventional role? Then why build something specialized in the first place? I too think it makes sense saab. I see Dhruv/Rudra as multi role utility platform rather then a specialized one. Most of these m...

Re: LCH and other Helicopters Discussion Thread

No abhik. I think we are missing a point here. The LCH is a new addition for IA/IAF. It has its place in the evolving doctrine of IA/IAF.
The Apache's IMO are strictly replacements for the Hinds in the heavy category.

Re: Discussion on Indian Special Forces

MP-5 and is indeed sadly inadequate, for room clearing, better options exist, ideally they can quickly wrap up testing of MSMC and order it in great numbers, ideal replacement for a 9mm submachine gun. The MP-5 is good but for 9mm, they can order more Berretta MX-4 which is better than the MP-5 (on...

There is some good headway made by General Atomics in terms of plausible Laser based C-RAM system. This high level partnership exercise can evolve into a more future proof effort if there can be a solid system that can be proposed instead of something that can(?) be addressed by ASTRA, Akash, Barak ...

Koti is possibly referring to the BEL datalink2 on the indian P8Is. whether it would be allowed/integrated to the Apaches is a question that needs to be answered. if both LCH and Apaches sport it, they can communicate. Is the AH-64 a necessity for India? . I think not! Now, the countries which field both these kind of helicopters in numbers also produce both. We don't. Highlighted portion supports my point that SHORAD is only beneficial if it is cheaper than Akash. As Spyder or any other imported SHORADS is more costly, there is no point to import and we should use Akash and later if required Astra. Yes the system is fairly cheap but the problem is AIM-9, Stinger...

I agree. I don't think that an actual prototype would have been sent out. 1. Prototypes are never painted in the camouflage pattern. 2. There were 6 more missiles shown in the canisters at ADEX. I don't think they have 7 prototypes. And if they had time to make 6 dummies, then could have easily mad...

Re: Indian Naval Discussion

I was wondering if US-2's can be suitably modified to be used as ASW aircraft.
The Kamov is a good platform for ship based ASW but these can IMO beef up the shore based ASW capability with a longer range, quicker response and a far higher endurance.
What say.
