Re: Artillery Discussion Thread

What are we so obsessed about truck mounted arty for mountain sectors? With M777 coming in soon, really dont see a need for truck mounted guns. In fact, it only adds to a longer logistics tail and lesser flexibility

The 75/24 was a useless weapon, as was discovered to our cost in places like Hilli in '71 (Yes, I know that it did wonders in few places like Asal Uttar, but those are exceptions). Are you talking about the Yugoslav 76mm - that was pathetic even compared to the 75/24, and was a predecessor to the l...

Given the planned expansion in AAC by the Indian Army, all the work that has gone into Dhruv helicopter and subsequently into WSI-Dhruv and LCH will see great implementation. Even assuming 1 x Squadron of LCH for each Corps @ 12 helicopters per squadron, we're looking at an order of 170-180 helicop...

This just an attempt to kill both FMBT and Arjun "with love". Arjun will remain a 60+ton tank due to requirement of 4 men crew and will never be ordered in numbers. After Russia rolls out prototypes of it's own FMBTs suddenly a requirement will be created for import. It's HTT-40, wired AT...

Dunno how these armoured regiments do it, but in an Infantry battalion, EVERY soldier is an infantryman, regardless whether he is a cook, cleaner, washerman, clerk or what have you. Everyone does what he is told. And no task is too menial. Not sure of how it is in Armoured Regts, but in Inf and Art...

^^ Agree that the Clerks Grade generally won't get the "ragda" of BPET, however, technically everyone in the unit is expected to do. If this was a case of they feeling BPET to be "menial", then its very surprising Either ways, not a good news in terms of this happening and (ofcou...

Agreed. Perhaps, with AAC also expanding its net in terms of officer intake (apart from Arty), this dilution must be happening. Earlier, the "Air Op" chaps used to go through the standard gunnery (LGSC etc) courses and rotations within the standard Arty Regts.
