Re: Discussion on Indian Special Forces

This experience of being under real fire is valuable. Perhaps we are the only force in the world where 90% of the army (in rotation via RR) has operated under fire. We make fun of PLA stating that the last war they fought was in 1979 that too with not very pleasant result. Then the opposite of it, m...

That s true for 50 odd mirage 2000 compared to 75 morning g 29, mirage 2000 maintainance budget was three times of that of mig 29. Noon wonder m2000 had such a high rate. Sadly it is more a reflection on us than western vs Russian equipment. Somehow we could not find 600 carores (less than 100 milli...

But a quick few sq MIG 29 (multirole) can arrest numbers at a cheaper rate. We ere looking at Malaysian Mig 29 (relatively unused) to shore up numbers. We are heavily down in numbers. I think this makes only sense if we get a reliable and unshakable BVR to go with it.

The current SU30MKI radars are good no sorry great. It can detect the best our adversary can put for the next 20 years. What is the rudali about AESA? SU30MKI can use many things in upgrade (and Super Sukhoi upgrade can be in stages, where later stages are radar and engines), starting with many EW s...

There was no completion for Darin III and lca for 2052. No one was willing to offer us aesa. We shopped and shopped, mother Russia did not have, us wont let the Israelis. It has to be a Russian radar. Whatever it is. While AESA has it's advantages, I hope we do not pick the next one just because it's AESA, it should offer big leap over current SU30MKI radar. A marginal leap, and we should wait for better alternative from Russia (or co develop IBRIS to something bigge...

Re: Su-30: News and Discussion - August 9, 2014

Radar on a plane is not just radar. All a-a weapon (including cueing for just IR ones) and almost all a-g weapon depend on the radar, along with EW suite that has to interface correctly with own radar. If we ever put 2052 on SU30MKI (which Russia wont allow, we have better chances putting LCA LRUs),...

well in any case additional 40 SU30MKI (the most capable IAF aircraft as of now, and the one that can make difference in both sectors, China and TSP) will be a welcomed addition. If I may, mountain warfare is going to be manpower extensive. Technology can help, but to only some extent (aircraft cannot take off at that heights or performance is highly downrated), armor cannot move that fast and can be choked, artillery is not that effective, a miss of few meters can be missin...

Tejas took longer to takeoff (too many minutes on the runway, could also be optical illusion in the last few seconds), compared to in Bahrain, where it was airborne is some 8-11 seconds. Re: Indian Air Force News & Discussion - 15 Dec 2016

My take, 10,000 sorties in 3 days is more right. There are 1100 planes. For LCA we know that they are pulling off 3 sorties a day. If that is the rate, 1100 could be pulling 3300 sorties a day or 10,000 in 3 days. What is the objective of Gagan Shakti - Reading between lines, it is turn around time,...

Important point -didn’t we buy 50 su30mki directly? (Or were they delivered by Hal by assembling sub parts). If they have delivered 222 then we already have 272. 32 should be left from the extra 40 ordered? Something is not right with this math.

We should get as many as mig29 as possible. They are cheap and upgraded one very capable. They will build the number so desperately needed. Why stop at 21, let it be 40 or 60. Refurbished, maybe $10-15 mil a piece.

Is there a true role for NLCA. Few things that naval planes require (more than AF version) - 1)Longer range - It has to protect it's ship at a longer distance, be on patrol fro a longer time (flying and landing at deck is tough and the best Navy can only do so many sorties from a deck). So then, the body may get elongated, but the wing will remain the same, effectively keeping lift same, but increasing weight, impacting acceleration, turn ratio etc etc. Not a bad bargain, if that increases range, volume (say for internal jammer), weapon load etc.
