I hear you, fellow jingo  My personal wish is to see IAF deployed with NATO forces in A'stan

Waise i think the closest we have worked with them is in Congo (ONUC and MONUC). Ivory Coast is a potential area for collab. With RAF we had Op Khukri in Sierra Leone.

They dont get paid - but otherwise they wear the Lt and Capt rank badges.

Hmm, I thought a army Lt. is actually paid less salary than his JCOs. This is due to the sarkari system in India where pay increases with service years.

One of the problems in this is the educational standards. Some of the JCOs come from very rural backgrounds, and the education level may be not upto the mark. Putting them on higher level courses may be problematic for them. How ever this problem would go as the nation's educational standards go up...

The original role of JCOs has expanded from times of the Raj. They are now expected o take charge of small actions. JCOs can take charge of platoons and section size missions if a officer is not 'around', while the Indian officer necessarily commands a Company and upwards (IIRC). They are now expect...

IIRC in fighter aircraft small intakes such as these feed air to the afterburners. APUs also require a separate intake. But the positioning of intakes in IJT seems odd for these appliactions.

Intakes for cooling are generally seen in AWACS/ELINT aircraft.

What is the DW 47 just above the landing gear?

Construction Number or "C/N". Something like the chassis number in your car.

DW47 has to be a civilian prototype (wheeled landing gear), since N901 has a different nose job.
