Re: Books that cover Indian Armed forces and its History

The blurb from Gurmeet Kanwal's bk says that it is an official publication from Army Hdqtrs. Amarinder's book was excellent - one of the best one's that I've read on the exploits of the IA. Also, the geographical description of the Kargil theatre was superb. If Kanwal's bk is as good - then it's a m...

Did anybody read "Heroes of Kargil" by Gurmeet Kanwal (available in BR bookstore) ? How is it different from Amarinder Singh's book (A Ridge Too Far) ?

Re: Indo-French exercises: Mixed results

Can anybody speculate as to what type of tactics were innovated by the IAF Mirage pilots to compensate for greater range of French radars ? The way I look at it - if we can innovate to neutralize French radar/BVR superiority; then the PAF can do the same to surprise us.

Don't now if this has been mentioned before - the latest AirForces Monthly has a superb article on MOFTU. Browsed through it at the local bookstore. Perhaps somebody can upload it and put it on the Forum just like the Siachen article.

GD - 'aahluwalia' or Ankur Ahluwalia is very much a lurker on BR but hardly posts anymore. I was in email touch with him re a BR meet in the NE. Gayatri has posted 2-3 times on BR HICAF in response to some threads so she probably checks BR frequently.

Re: Understanding INSAS

Wow ! Raj - excellent summary. Qts - during Kargil, their were qts of the stopping power of the INSAS carbine. Stopping power comes from velocity and size of ammo. Since ammo is the same for carbine, rifle and LMG; then velocity of carbine fire must be low. Has this problem been solved ? Is carbine ...

Re: Rising Star: Maj. Gen. Dalbir Singh AVSM, VrC, VSM

dsandhu and Jagan - I guess my deeper concern is how the Wound Medal is awarded. Based on books I've read (specially during the Vietnam War), the Purple Heart became almost a joke. It was awarded for the most minor cuts and thus became much cheapened (mind you - I've met vets who wear it with pride)...
