Re: Indian Economy News & Discussion - Nov 27 2017

Anyway you cut it but there is no escaping the fact that the animal spirit of high growth of early last decade is missing. Labour law reform There is no labour law reform in sight, AFAIK. There is a wage bill which seems to be close to ready and which primarily deals with wage related issues like m...

Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry

240 should be chased what ever the wicket. I am surprised Pant and Pandya played so slow. Didn't watch the game but the strike rate is abysmally low. Yes, poor pitch preparation. The pitches did not have the consistency of 2015. The 'deserve to lose' is not because we played badly on the day, but fo...

We deserve to lose. The entire middle was screwed up in trying to accommodate one man who is barely fit. Our middle order should have been finalised two years ago, but we were still undecided till our last match. Good riddance.

India gave 20 runs too many. Small mistakes will cost us this match. The chahal over, byes by Dhoni, 3 or 4 over throws and a couple of misfieldings.
Dhoni barely collected a ball cleanly all innings.

India not taking wickets in the middle overs. With so many wickets and pitch not playing true, any late charge by NZ will prove costly for India.

Re: Indian Economy News & Discussion - Nov 27 2017

Apart from comparing with other countries, we must also look at the tax rates in India on their own merit. Any more than 35% sounds high to me. I prefer a highest bracket of 32-33% inclusive of all surcharges and cess. I feel that is the threshold most people will pay their taxes rather than try to ...

b. Let's look at effective tax rates. Up to Rs.10 lakh, rates are 11.25% plus cesses. Upto 50 lakh, it is 29%. Between 50lakh to 1cr, a 10% surcharge is applied on applicable tax i.r. effective rate of 31.9%. Between Rs.1-2cr, the surcharge is 15%, so 33.35% . From 2-5cr an additional 3% surcharge ...

Batsmen do not get usually get injured if they played more of course unless hit by the ball, but it's still rare compared to bowlers' stress fractures or ham strings etc. If anything, the more time batsmen spend in the center, the better. Even today's pitch between NZ and Eng behaved like the Edgbaston pitches. I am doubting if there is any good one day pitch for the remaining matches. Most grounds on England are small. I doubt it will make a difference if we play at Manchester or Birmingham. After this loss, NZ's NRR will be around 0.17 and pakis will be at -0.79. Pakis have to win by about 120 runs or more to qualify, if my calculations are correct. Not totally impossible. We can top the table if SA wins against Aus though it looks unlikely. We gave a life line to England. Its now up to them to grab it kick the pakis out. Surprised by the depth of BD batting. Number 8 makes 51 in 38 balls. Our bowlers probably did not got all out but still it was a great effort by them.
