Re: Indian Naval Discussion

Jesus, these effing journalists. The fireclay bricks themselves were ok, the material which was used as lining between the boiler surface and the bricks and as stick-together didn't stand the heat. Was that the same insulation material which was shown as burning a couple months in Oleg's pic? No th...

Info from the Captain of Vikramaditya. Since 8 June she has logged over 11 thousand miles at average speed of 14-16 knots, over a hundred take-offs and landings of MiG-29s.

The comments have cooled down. Vik is still capable of making up to 22 knots, aircraft tests are continued including night flights. On 25th she is expected back at Sevmash where 3 boilers will be repaired, not replaced.

More info coming out: the breakdown happened in late July. The ship was kept at sea to finish the tests of aircraft and handling systems. Apparently it's still able to have at least 18-20 knots under 5 boilers. So they had 3 boilers knocked out and continued with the test , strange. Must be some te...

Re: Indian Naval Discussion

7 boilers damaged, 3 of them beyond repair and will have to be replaced, expected time for repairs - 6 to 10 months, the new date for delivery - October, 2013. The tricky part is that there are no ready boilers for replacement, they have to be produced and tested first.

Re: Indian Naval Discussion

SNaik, Yes that is my point so comparing number of vessels when you spending that much is like US boasting about how many vessels they are building compared to Russia. That said SSNs may not necessarily cost more than current generation SSKs, our Scorpene is great example of that. Also China was al...

Re: Indian Naval Discussion

India might be slow in building them ships but are they technologically inferior to Chinese ships? Yes, if you are smoking something strong. Apart from the fact that PLAN spends more money than Japan/India/Korea/Pakistan/East Asian navies combined, yes there is disparity in SSKs thanks to Scorpene....

Exactly. Su-33 are not going to land they are just checking landing approaches and other equipment. MiGs are scheduled to start flying next week. The first pic shows a Mig-29 already on it. There were unofficial reports of delivery of the first MF-STAR to India in late 2010/early 2011. Since then no official information has surfaced. As you can see on the picture of modifications to the original 1143 cruiser, the added width of the angled deck was off-set by the extention of the flight deck on the starboard. Thus the island looks more centrally positioned than previously. MiG with folded wings is a quite compact aircraft and can...
