Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan - Dec 25, 2012

The way for Indian govt to deal with this on-again off-again peepul-to-peepul sports/etc contacts should be: 1. Already committed schedules should be kept 2. All future potential commitments should be put on hold. 3. All Pakistanis and Bangladeshis applying for any visa should sign a declaration a. ...

Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan - Dec 25, 2012

Apparently our fellows raided a Pakistani post in Haji Pir sector called Sawan Patra and gave a Paki his 72. Wonder what the provocation was. Heavy firing going on in the area. Pacquis must have seriously pissed off the Army folks. Retaliatory shelling by IA is one thing but raiding across LoC woul...

Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan - Oct 4 2012

Johann The Muslim League's supporters in the UP didn't fear liberal pluralism of Independent India. Rather they convinced themselves that such a thing couldn't exist in a Hindu majority democratic India. I would believe that it was as simple as that too but Pakistanis refused to accept Hindus as a m...

Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan - Oct 4 2012

But the Mohajirs of UP who were the strongest supporters of the Pakistan idea were less worried about land and more concerned about the identity and culture wars. Their memory is of the post-1857 rise of Hindi and the eclipse of Hindusthani/Urdu. They assumed that India would be ruled by the sentim...

Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan - Oct 4 2012

I think its precisely the historical perspective of inter-communal relations in Punjab before the Pakistan movement that fueled his hope. Wasn't there a feeling that the real support for Pakistan was in Muslim minority provinces like UP, not Bengal and Punjab which were reluctant late comers? That ...

The forked tongue of this guy is not new either. When the poakroaches of NLI occupied Kargil heights, this guy was gloating about the tactical brilliance of it. Then when the downhill skiing started happening, this guy became moderately enlightened. EDIT: Found the piece: Gloating: http://archives....

Forked tongues of the holy armies By Ayaz Amir (ex PA) the foremost clean-shaven sympathizer of the Taliban, Imran Khan There are visible beards and there are hidden ones. Two faced Pakistan exposes itself in the US Gen Eshan ul-Haq’s mission was rather more crude. Speaking at the Center for the National Interest, formerly known as the Nixon Center, Haq summoned the ghosts and djinns used by the military and even civilian governments in the past, but which no longer ...

Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan (TSP) : 24 July 2

But its not about Congress Vs NDA point scoring, its India we are talking about. Actually you did make it about Congress vs NDA point scoring. You can't keep aside MMS's desire. He will inflict irreperable damage to India if he continues down this path. TSP is playing a brilliant divide and conquer...

Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan (TSP) : 24 July 2

Keeping aside MMS's inexplicable desire to keep doing business with Pakistan, it is well to note that during NDA rule, the discussions were about whether land in border areas of J&K could be exchanged for 'peace' and Musharraf's '4 point plan' was being blathered about by all and sundry in India...

Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan (TSP) : 24 July 2

The question is, what do Pakis hope to achieve through such ham-handed psy-ops? It is not that everyone reads express tribune (about 10 people in Pakistan buy english newspapers). They probably hoped some Western journalist based in Af-Pak would pick it up and republish in Western media. Pak offici...

Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan (TSP) : 24 July 2

The Muslims have only just won their own Muslim homeland, and they still have to build a structure that will suit conditions and developments that will take place. I am sure that with the jihadi Islamists, such a structure that suits the conditions is being built at last. It is also relevant to rem...

Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan (TSP) : 24 July 2

Yeah, a plausible reason is that Jinnah was paranoid about Congress sabotaging Muslim League. It was probably the same then as it is today - nameless dread of the Hindu majority used to justify anything from rabid jihadi militias to economic policy.

Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan (TSP) : 24 July 2

Re change in Jinnah after 1920 One cause of change in Jinnah was probably British government's allocation of Central Legislative Assembly seats in the 1919 Montford reforms for India. In 1909 Muslims were allotted 5 of 27 elected seats, according to Ambedkar's book. (Wolpert says 8 of 28 nonofficial...
