Re: AEW&C News & Discussion

send back to oem. If we buy a new build, it will end up in a long queue to be produced after all the orders before it are executed. Retrofit will take less than 9 months to a year once you purchase something. You will probably have all 6 refuelers in less than two years from date of purchase. Given ...

Buy used A330s for refuelers at 1/3rd price and convert the current 6 refuelers to AEW status. Cheap and effective, use the saved money to start a new IIT type college somewhere.

Re: AEW&C News & Discussion

Yeah, none of these have been flogged. They might go for another 20-25 years. Look at those B52s and the older build 707 still slogging out there 25 years after they were supposed to have been retired. I think all the bad news about gajraj was written to justify the purchase of C-17. I am hoping we ...

A little caught up this week. There are a lot of weights and payload capacities that I do not know about. Let me read up a bit and get back to you with my back of the envelop calculations. P.S. the chapatis weigh more, the antenna on the Wedgetail weighs about 3000 kgs. Sure.. Take your time.. Do y...

Re: AEW&C News & Discussion

There is no way that you can use the same platform and carry more stuff using the same amount of fuel. Going from a civilian airliner, one loses the passengers, furniture and luggage but adds electronic equipment. Generally the plane gets heavier. There is no workaround. There are other factors affe...

Its a large enough country + we need lots of help in COIN & anti-Naxal operations and other internal security needs. But if the above numbers materialize, that's a pretty decent AWACS fleet. I don't think you can use aew for that. How would you use it for COIN + naxal stuff ? Better suited woul...

Re: AEW&C News & Discussion

Indranil, IMO it will be minimal if at all. The ranges given for the 737-700 fall in line with the reported range for 7A platform used for the Wedgetail program. There seems to be no difference listed. Even if there is a penalty, the range will still be twice the ERJ145 unit seems to have. Given tha...

... IMO, Airbus 321 Neo meets the bill. Good internal space, long ranged enough, has capacity to add extra fuel tanks, upto 9 I think. Current range is around 4000NM+ in NEO config and no extra tanks, Good space for rest and 2nd crew. Cost is $110 million and Indigo has ordered about 150 in number ...

What do we really need in AWACS. 1. Uptime for about 8 hours with one crew and upto 16 hours with refueling or extra fuel tanks. 2. Space for two set of crews, 8 workstations, Commanders unit, galley and rest area with almost the same rest room configuration as passenger liner. 3. Cost - shouldn't c...

Re: Indian Military Aviation- September 29 2013

Why almost 200 trainers? 1. We need to train a lot more pilots. Intake can be increased. 2. Trainers get used heavily. More aircraft means flying hours per aircraft gets distributed, thus fleet will last a while. And more numbers cater to maintenance schedules. Batches of trainees need to be traine...

The DRDO source said, ‘This has delayed the induction of the tank a bit, but then we are telling the army that since the platform, the tank, is ready they can take it up, with the missile getting mated later.’ Guess IA is not really into this logic when it comes to desi stuff? If we are needing urgent induction, then a new type is not a way to go. I think inducting a ...
