Re: Artillery Corps: News & Discussion

They won't get increased CAPEX. However, they will get all the weapons needed. No one with an iota of the brain will give a rupee to CAPEX. It will be spent chasing imports. The defence budget is split into two heads. Revenue - this is for existing stores, infra, spend on personnel. Capital. This i...

Re: Artillery Corps: News & Discussion

Let me say this - (and hard to accept) - Do we announce everything that gets bought/inducted (domestic or foreign?). You can simply check the overall budget, see the amount allotted to capex and make reasonable assumptions. The amounts are too limited to radically change things. For instance, I did...

Re: Artillery Corps: News & Discussion

KaranM, You increase Capex the two services(IA and IAF) will order only imports. The Navy will not. This theory was tried out in 2020 when the Chiefs were given emergency procurement leeway. All they ordered was to import a small number of exotic weapons. Not one single BPJ was ordered. So the less...

Re: India's R&D in Defence DRDO, PSUs and Private Sector

I have a feeling that this is a step towards increasing involvement of Pvt sector in R&D. DRDO will no longer have sole claim to R&D funds. DRDO also has some inexplicable delays in projects Eg Nirbhay & Rustom-2. Indian Pvt sector has 100+ flying designs of UAVs, compare that to HAL NR...

I agree to remove the DRDO chief as Scientific Advisor to the RM. Most DRDO chiefs are engineers and far removed from Science. The early SA were good as they came from a Science background. Come on sir, the DRDO chief deals with applied science and has hands on awareness of the topic. The SA to the...

A lot of the babu lobby is also involved in this game. Can you clarify some more on what exactly is the role for Rudram-1 and why no equivalent exists (if these can be discussed in an open forum)? Is there a specific need for a heavy A2G missile? It looks like the specs of Rudram-1 is similar to those of the new generation HARM-ER - in terms of range, warhead, seekers etc. But the latter seems a more compact missile. Not dissing Rudram-1 of course. But am arguing for more orders, which will fund further development to make it a lighter, fas...

2) Not sure why this missile weights 600 Kg, compared to HARM's 360 Kg for similar range and warhead weight. Maybe dual-pulse rocket motor? Still, it seems like there is scope for more R&D to reduce weight so that a single Sukhoi can carry more of these It's not a HARM, but far better. That's a...

Yes it can, with structural mods. Range depends on alt R sir. Higher alts max range (15km, easily 150km).
