Not to mention the scattering centers are not sitting still inside stars. Don't they have momentum too. So how is initial photon able to keep direction intact while conserving net momentum of the system ?

Very high energy Gamma rays can pair produce electron pairs, so it is not like some simple scattering with visible photons...So the analogy only goes so far.

The laser community is well entrenched in physics departments in India, the madrasa in the south being an example to this. The stimulated emission photons, unlike random emission, are generally along same vector as incident photon.
