Yeah, and I love the bit about the "virtually obsolescent F-86 Sabres" (yup, armed with Sidewinders!) - and how much trouble they had against Mig-19s, which didn't fly in in the Korean air war!

Wow, Qadir has been smoking some very good quality maal. Why he doesn't share, I don't know. Just have a dekko at what this illustrious man has to say about the war: "For fighter planes, relying almost exclusively on virtually obsolescent F-86s, which had been found wanting against MIG-19s by t...

September 6th, of course, will mark 40 years since the Indian Army crossed the border - sending Ayub Khan into a panic and opening a new front.

Shiv, Thanks for the review - Jagan has pretty much said it all. While our electronic collaboration was unique, it did have this one downside of dumping all the last-stage work on the one author that was in India.

And yes please, do send us typos etc. We can make corrections in the second printing.

Folks, if there are people here who have read the book, and would like to contribute a review or something, consider entering it at the amazon.com page for the book. It would be much appreciated.

Harry, thanks for the review. All good points as Jagan notes. The maps issue will definitely be addressed in the second edition. Responding to propaganda claims is a full-time task and authors run the risk of getting distracted from the main story. In this book, we chose not to give the absurd claims made by the PAF much attention. We wanted to tell the story of the IAF men in this war. Its their story, and we saw no point in...

Harry,

Thanks for the preliminary review, and we'll look forward to the more detailed one. The exclusion of the Sargodha chapter was done because we felt that the refutation of the claims was taking up too much space and it was implicit in our accounts of the various battles.

Cheers,

Vishnu,

Would it be possible for NDTV to provide some airtime/coverage/attention to the new Bharat Rakshak book on the 1965 air war (co-authored by the IAF site webmasters)?

Please do let Jagan or myself know.

The Jag pilots have been drawn from all squadrons. WingCO Rajiv Khera, CO of 14 Sqn, is the team leader. Sqn Ldr Pawan Kumar, senior flight commander of 16 Sqn, is the deputy. The remaining pilots are drawn from 5,14,16,27,6 Sqns. There is a wide variation in ranks in the pilots contingent.

Jagan,

Maybe you should post the COI report on Gadgil in the Gen Aerospace thread as well. Given the amount of discussion that takes place on MiG-21 crashes, I'm surprised there has not been more commentary on the report. I like the idea of making these reports public incidentally.
