No. As has been laid out all are above any blame- scientists, government officials, politicians. All have acted honorably and above reproach. Only jiingos are not exempt. They are same as NPA mullahs. The sarcasm is well put. It is an awful stretch of the neurons to the breaking point, to suggest t...

1. Scientists involved in the 98 tests knew what their expected yields were. And a fizzle would be known to more than a couple of scientists and would be known to the government. It is not completely certain that the armed forces would be in the loop about the fizzle. But the forces would surely kno...

As posted by lakshmi_c the x-ray compression of the secondary fizzles if instabilities arise. One way for TN to fizzle then is if shocks from the primary introduce perturbations leading to instabilities before x-rays have done their job. So in a way shaping/conrolling shocks from the primary is impo...

If you could get a marble size lump of Pu to fission and explode (may not be possible at all - I don't know)- it could perhaps be used to fuse a grapefruit size mass of Deuterium, so its a good research proejct. If the grapefruit surrounds the marble, then the exploding marble will just rip apart t...

Anant, Thanks for digging up that Progressive mag article. Yes it is old, and doesn't show the spark-plug, the fissile hollow cylinder, at the center, but still has a lot of historical value. Arun_S, Let curiosity about bleeding edges not kill the cat. So mum (I guess that will still be meow in Catanese) is the word.
