Re: Indian Economy News & Discussion - Aug 26 2015

I take it back...Feel free to delete the post...I took info from a source which I thought was credible. Premnath ji, what you might have been implying is that our overall spend on health and education is low. That is correct to a large extent (though private sector spends, at low cost to consumer, ...

Re: Indian Economy News & Discussion - Aug 26 2015

People blaming the GHI figures should know that Govt spending on social services including Education and Healthcare as % of budget has been the lowest in last 10 years. Around 5% of budget...this is pathetic. http://www.livemint.com/Politics/vGyN2gAObDV3TK3ZAw7jSP/Are-NDA-and-UPA-budgets-radically-...

^^ you got to give it to the Chinese govt... Every analyst and data pointed at a hard landing for the last 3 years. http://thetruepicture.in/gujarats-agricultural-story-the-modi-miracle/ Beautiful article on how Gujarat's crop yield rose 80% from 2000-2001 to present. Lots of stats and figures. Gujarat is largely a semi-arid to arid region. The success of Gujarat’s agricultural sector lies to a large extent in t...

Can you put those figures here?...Would like to see those improvements. Our health and social indices are low because we don't spend much on them..And this is mainly a state issue than a central govt one..a decent Mid day meal scheme, good primary education and extensive network of PHCs have done w...

Re: Indian Economy News & Discussion - Aug 26 2015

The data in the GHI report pretty much agrees with data from GoI. The implication is that nutrition in India is not improving as fast as elsewhere in the world, which is why the country slipped in the rankings. I saw yesterday, someone posted on twitter, analysis of GOI data over the years. There i...

Can you please elaborate WITH FACTS how the two best governed states in the country are just 'half decent ' ? Cockeyed labor policies and militant trade unionism doesn't equate with bad governance...And please elaborate on how the second biggest state economy (with less than 5% of its population ) ...

Re: Indian Economy News & Discussion - Aug 26 2015

This does not excuse the overall numbers or justify anything done by our politicians, but at least differentiates issues of state-level development (and hence governance) from national/central issues and governance. Interestingly, Governance and Development seem to be uncorrelated. TN and Kerala ha...

Re: Currency Demonetisation and Future course of Indian Economy

People pining for privatization of all PSUs ignore the sad state of corporate india..of course private companies revolutionized Telecom and sat television sectors. And they provide employment in numbers that govt and PSUs can never match. But we dont realise that vast majority of private companies a...

i dont understand how is it the role of the CEA to tackle the NPA problem...his role is to advice the government on broader economic issues. Poring over balance sheets of banks was for the then RBI governor's job...even if it was his job, how do we know he hadn't flagged these issues to FM then?.. ...

Re: Currency Demonetisation and Future course of Indian Economy

^^ I did not say checking the NPA problem was not CEA's job. I said checking the health of Bank's balance sheets was the RBI governors role. The banks had hidden all the NPAs whitewashed neatly within their reports to RBI all these years. We do not have anything out in public about what was discusse...

I can see plenty of gloom and doom over here....things are looking bad, but i wouldnt go as far to say NDA2 mishandled the economy. That credit solely belongs to UPA1+2. Pretty solid work they did...I dont understand why people are alarmed seeing the economy slow down for the last couple of quarters...
