Re: Air Force Tejas Mk1A: News & Discussions: 02 January 2022

Just attempted humor... Just imagine Tejas accelerating to Mach 3+ riding on Brahmos and dropping it just before the terminal phase. What a superb way to extend Tejas' range and it can use increased loiter time on target to take photus of smouldering Pindi and dropping a few suitable dumb bombs on ...

From what I could gather, the range of LORA is 300km with 570kg and you can increase fuel fraction at the cost of warhead weight for higher range. Also the terminal velocity will be slower. Experts can give better explanation.

Ramana garu, the acquisition plan of IAF never inspired confidence. The latest numbers for Tejas Mk.2, IIRC, were like 6 sq of v1 (GE 414) and 4 sq of v2 with another engine. That's a great news, if true (and I hope it is)! Mk2 may have higher range but Mk1A itself has non-trivial range. Getting MARS would be helpful and if and when required Su-30s also can chip in with buddy refueling.

AkshaySG, he did mean 10 (=7+3) years for induction. But it is straight forward to see that it is hardly possible and it's just a play for time and relevance of the project. By that time frame China might be flying 6th gen (however inferior to its US counterpart).
