Re: AMCA News and Discussions

The shift towards MCA being more air - air oriented is a little perplexing... I thought FGFA would be the air dominance fighter and MCA would be a striker. The new design seems to be better in LO than previous one; only worried about ADA's ability to implement the same within time and HAL's ability ...

Re: The Ram Janmbhoomi Verdict: News and Discussion

In my humble opinion, the court should have found out who is the rightful owner of the disputed site. Whether a temple existed or not is just a pointer in that direction. It seems that court has decided that the title belongs to Hindus. In this case, the three way split is not the right thing - the ...

The government should give a tender for engines of MCA - to be 100% indigenous manufacturing . Two lowest bidders to be selected - highest for 60-70% of the order and the second for the rest. Engines to be manufactured within 10 years. Assured order book of XXX numbers. If one of them fails, the oth...

Re: QuickClot Donation Project - Lessons Learned

Scams are everywhere... This one was in the name of patriotism. As someone suggested, if BRF wants to do such collections in future, it is better to create a trust and direct such donation through it. A single person is always a bad idea. Even if Mr.Bhavesh was a honest individual, imagine the scena...

After so many pages, the discussion has not reached anywhere!

There are valid arguements from both sides but none has been able to convince the other side the merit of their arguements. It is better to stop now rather than deteriorating to personal attacks.

if true isnt 400kmph > landing speed of even a Mig21? Flights originating from the gulf are heavier than calculated weights because the hand baggage and the duty free would be heavy. Hand baggage allowance of 7kgs is always exceeded and the ROP passengers make a huge hue and cry if charged for extr...

Re: India's R&D in Defence DRDO, PSUs and Private Sector

Geeth, Eventhough I dont agree with 100% FDI in defense sector, the arguements you put forth against that are baloney. Indian private sector is slowly starting to compete with the best in the world. Enough examples are quoted in the thread. So i am not repeating them. I agree that some DPSUs have sh...

Re: C-17s for the IAF?

George, people have convincingly (atleast to me) given an explanation to your remarks on "discrimination on basis of sex" in armed forces. Whatever way you try to spin it, it is discriminatory. Gilles has given the example of Canada. This is likely to happen in India too. I am fully convin...

Re: C-17s for the IAF?

George, ITAR is such a discriminatory and stupid rule that it makes my skin crawl. India is a democratic country which doesnt distinguish between its citizens. Any rule which forces it to do so is unconstitutional. I have nothing against C-17 as a platform. But if it needs to be ITAR compliant, thro...

Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread

Not a question of your agreement or disagreement, this is not about a PoV, this is about how organizations are structured. In India it is not like what you say. The responsibility lies with MoD. The forces ask for equipment with justifications for the same; the MoD provides them with what it can us...

As simple as that -- and its not IAs fault that Indian mil-ind complex is late lateef, that is not its task. Instead of worrying about the REAL issue, the state of Mil-Ind complex, we are covering every other ground. Including how leadership of Kalki avatar level must come from IA otherwise its a f...

Our first prototype AHWR reactor using Thorium will get commissioned in 2011. After that only we can be sure if the technology is viable and can be replicated to the extent envisioned by late Homi Bhabha.

Re: Poll: Pokhran II not fully successful - The way ahead

There is no doubt we should improve our deterrence. But it should be done in a covert manner so as not to invite sanctions. We cant afford any hurdles in path of development; being an economic superpower should be the priority.

Is the poll over?

I actually never thought of the logistics of the airlift and more i think about it, more inclined i am to agree with Somnath. It is good to see that we are getting a move on. I hope the MiG doesnt get selected. My reasoning is simple: 1. Since we are going in for FGFA, whatever technology MiG will transfer will anyway be acquired. So we are not going to learn anything new. 2. We need to reduce Russia's leverage on Indian d...

All contracts i have seen are fixed price only... No cost escalation on materials. The seller is supposed to hedge for the materials. But i dont know for very long term contracts.

What i dont understand is why dont India levy penalty for delays? Cost escalation is partly due to delays.
