Re: Pakistan arms sales, ops, doctrine, etc
The Raad airframe geometry is unusual, especially the winglets/wingtip fence on the tailfins (what are they called - taillets???). Wouldnt they mess up lateral maneuverability?

NBC suits are very uncomfortable to work in. Personnel become slow and lose dexterity. Cleaning and maintenance after use is exhaustive. Shelf life of equipment is low. In my view, this exercise was probably a PR event for media benefit. The location looks like Fort William/Esplanade. The brass want...

Vick, They are rf dipoles used for communications. Ellora is used in conjunction with Ajanta and is only in the newer ships. Dunagiri is over 30 years and at the fag end of her career. Her machinery is in a good shape, so used for trials. The three older Leanders have been decommissioned and the las...

Jcage – These designations were used by Elta sales engineers while making their presentations to us. We procured 8212 pods. All have similar components and performance, so no high end or low end differentiation. Sunil - From the pdf, you can notice that 8212 has sharp sides while 8222 has slightly...

http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/LAND-FORCES/Army/Galleries/main.php?g2_itemId=68 This is an interesting picture. I have never seen a 12.7 mm MG in infantry service. M2 was coaxially mounted on the Centurion/Vijayanta. This is a tripod mounted proper infantry weapon. The M2HB uses a 12.7x99mm round com...

Can anyone update me on PAF BVR capabilities? The current F-16 Block 15 are not sparrow compatible and can use only sidewinders. I dont think the Mirage 3/5 are Super 530D capable. I have never seen pictures of the above missiles in PAF service. So will PAF enter the BVR age only when F-16 Block 50/...

Joint exercises usually aren’t like bike races – pitting my RX100 against your CD100, KB100 or TVS AX100 You learn how the other operates - for example, Indians usually operate in a GCI environment whereas NATO forces operate in a networked environment centered on an AWACS. There is always somet...

The US had tested thrust vectoring earlier than the Russians. (Does anyone remember the F-15 with canards and TVC exhausts? Maybe someone can post a picture). The reason they decided not to proceed was – 1. The fighter loses its energy at the end of those maneuvers and for the time period it takes...

Convergent divergent exhaust nozzles. w/o afterburner they converge to maximize thrust. With afterburner they diverge. Usually convergent nozzles indicate subsonic flight and divergent supersonic flight. They are controlled by the FADEC unit that is linked to the flight computer. Wanted to know some...

Thanks for your views, Nikhil, and the data provided. Are your views based on the envelope / specifications of the hose / wire of the 400 mm torpedo? Do forward the same, it'll make interesting reading. I am researching ship launched wire guided torpedoes for quite some time now and facts are hard t...

While Bofors 400 mm torpedoes on Pakistani ships were rumoured in news reports - i havent come across any pictures or manufacturer or official press releases confirming the same. The reason why i am doubting the installation is that Bofors 400 mm torpedoes are wire guided. Any surface ship launching...
