I think it's best not to second guess the decisions of professionals who would be betting their life based on this assessment. Let's leave these decisions to the professionals, which you and me are clearly not.

How many 2 seater LCA do we have? I believe three. Two Tejas trainers (PV-5/6? the DM flying from HAL grounds should be one of these) and the first NLCA (NP-1). IAF had 8 two-seaters ordered for the initial batch of 40 but unless I missed it all 16 SPs sent to Sqd 45 are single seaters? That's righ...

^^ I agree. A single design which could be multi-use. But after todays announcement on tax cuts for corporates, and a possible revenue shortfall of Rs 1.5 Lakh crores, the IAFs desire for more capex, is not going to happen. I just hope the 83 LCA Mk1A are ordered. This would make the C295 based AEW...

Found it interesting that M2K were used for the strike, rather than our dedicated DPSA Jaguar. I feel it is to signal the choice of the new procurement. I am sure those costs don't come under CapEx budget, since they are routine operational requirements. A specialist tool for maintenance may be a CapEx procedure but the budgeting for it would be under OpEx only. So the total CapEx would remain at 35407cr or approx 4.9 billion USD.

Even if a prototype is required, they can convert one or two of the LSP’s to this role in a short time. Ideally this should have already happened but the focus on FOC certification may have prevented it.
