IIRC, Shyamd used to refer to a certain airstrip in Oman being used by IAF and IN's air-arm, wonder if the Tu-142's used the facility for this homecoming of INS Vikramaditya. It would explain why the flotilla made its way up to the Persian Gulf.

@ partha, the A3 Republic day parade pic is the Army's scheme of Arid Desert, not SFC.

Btw, the Hindu article says that A3 weight reduced by 22 tonnes, i.e new weight of 28 tonnes from the original 50 tonnes.

In some ways, India is actually better off trying to obtain island bases in the IOR (Diego Garcia for eg) rather than large CBG's. 3 CBG's with 3-4 island atolls having facilities for large airbases and naval facilities would secure the entire IOR for India.

In the future, India (specifically the Naval Air Arm) will certainly be able to base aircraft from any of the ASEAN countries on the SCR littorals.
