Re: Indian Navy News & Discussion - 15 Dec 2016

Time shipyards like L&T are given orders for major combatants. The IN needs to boost its destroyer and frigate count besides submarines to be able to compete with the Chinese.

The problem is not India moving away from Russia , the problem is Russia. The Russians expect India to be a captive cash cow and expect India not to react when they go against Indian interests. It’s not India that’s forgotten Russian friendship but Russia who has forgotten who kept their MIC afloat ...

This is gr8 news. But what needs to be kept in mind is that the IAF worked towards this exercise . Wars will not be fought according to a pre planned schedule. Keeping up a 90% availibility rate throught is going to be a tough ask. The IAF definately needs more numbers and hope the LCA helps in a bi...

Re: AMCA News and Discussions

^^ Right. F135 gives about 125kN dry thrust while 2xF414 would give ~115kN. AMCA is lighter by about ~1.5T empty weight. Given F35 cannot supercruise in a practical sense, AMCA is also unlikely to do so. But with 115-120kN class engine, things will become interesting for AMCA. I have not found any ...

Re: Project 75I - It Begins

I think a lot is going to depend on whether the French are going to help out on the SSN project and with what level of tech. It’s going to have a direct bearing on which way the P75I is going to swing. Cost wise there’s nothing to beat the Russian subs but the Amur has been no shining success. If it...

Boeing has really played a master stroke by tying up with both HAL and Mahindra. Having said that it wouldnt be the worst outcome if the Superhornet Blk 3 is choosen. More Rafales would be ideal but since cost is a major factor the Superhornet Blk 3 wouldnt be such a bad idea if costs can be kept do...

Very nice article. Long ago IDSA had a paper by R. Phadke which stated 65 squadrons for 2 front war. That looks like a more realistic number for a two front war. 4. AMCA will see another run of 200-300 machines. So total imports as things stand currently are only 36-44 planes. Rest all may change to a lower number as we get more confidence in ourselves.
