Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread - Jan 12, 2012

i would agree with that, MBT''s will not be a part of future land warfare (at least not in its current form) with a 3 man tank crew and relatively heavy elephants which would make easy pickings for UCAV's and increasingly sophisticated portable ATGM's. in the long term we have to look at unmanned s...

Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread - Jan 12, 2012

While "nelson" pretty much appears to be trolling, I believe it is important to provide reasonable answers where possible to his statements, for the record. With reference to his statement that the Arjun's broader tracks make it more mine damage prone, I believe there are two principal kin...

Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread - Jan 12, 2012

The argument about airdropping is stupid ddm paid by tin-can lobby. Check out how the M1 63Tonner tank is delivered by C17s. That livefist is all wrong. lQl3iyqrk8g PS: well not just all wrong, but big time BS as well! Z0-r5aZvnqU If the argument about Arjun vs tin-can is only by weight then IA is ...

Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread - Jan 12, 2012

Oh, and one more thing. I believe China to be the significant medium and long term threat and not Pakistan, which belief IMO most informed Indians share. Wikipedia shows the Chinese Type 99 to weigh between 54 to 58 tons, with the newest iterations (Type 99A1 and A2) weighing between 57 and 58 tons....

.... Arjun-1 is combat ready at 58.5 tons. Do we have assault bridges of MLC 60 with span less than 15m (yes 15 m) in inventory? Interesting that nelson brought this up. A little googling brought up this article: http://www.indianexpress.com/news/we-have-the-worlds-best-bridging-system-rnde/664222/...

Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread

It seems as if the good General is implying that the Army is not very happy with the Arjun, but will take what it is given to operate with. Not happy with the Mk I. They seem to be looking forward to the Mk II. I don't really see why they should be unhappy with the Mk 1. It isn't as if they have an...

India's Arjun Tank In Army's Biggest Wargame From the above link: For now, let me tell you what 21 Corps commander Lt Gen Sanjiv Langer said when I asked him if the regiment under his formation was happy with the Arjun: " It is not our job to be happy. We have objectives, and we have to make d...

Sometimes, the level of ignorance and stupidity really baffles me... http://ajaishukla.blogspot.com/2011/11/end-this-mmrca-hara-kiri.html How the simple fact that we are going to acquire PAKFA in numbers misses his radar confound me !! Unless he considers (based on info exclusive to him) tha...

My regular paanwalla spoke to the chai tapri vala who was somewhere near the Astra raakit launch. .......... Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread

With respect to Arjun tank, I have a theory on the induction pace and numbers planned for induction of Mk1. Now, considering the IA's chequered history wrt Arjun, this may seem implausible but please hear me out. Now we know that Arjun has turned a corner - and that is on two accounts: (1) When the...

I closely followed rohitvats' spirited and well reasoned arguments in defence of the Arjun last year on the armour thread against our "useful idiots" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Useful_idiot ) who went out of their way to passionately defend the indefensible aka the T90, and believe tha...

What is happening with the Indian cryo engine? I'm not able to find any reliable news beyond April 2010. While searching though I came across this (old) gem: http://kuku.sawf.org/Articles/3583.aspx . Is there any truth to it or is Vaijinder K. Thakur another nekulturny basher of indigenous efforts?

Re: Small Arms Thread

Funnily enough, the Army`s criticism seems to be limited to the INSAS. While my exposure to military info is limited, I have never heard much criticism of the Ishapore 1A1 (the 7.62 mm SLR which is a licence produced copy of the FN FAL) or its famous predecessors, the .303 Lee-Enfield (SMLE) or its ...
