Re: Indo-US Operations in J&K

I don't think the US would dare risk its troops in JK. Besides it would drive our Paki "allies" nuts. You think Indians are hostile to the idea? Imagine the reaction in Pakistan. It has Yankee-Yindoo conspiracy written all over it.

Re: Parakram II: all services excercise on western front

Doesn't it strike anyone as more than a litte bit rediculous to be talking about taking out Pakistan's nuclear capability with a conventional strike? With conventional payloads, that is pure fantasy for the IAF and IN; I doubt even US air power could pull it off without using nukes. The only way Ind...

One thing I find interesting is Pakistan's continued emphasis on <I>offensive</I> rather than <I>defensive</I> equipment. <P>Over the last decade they've put a lot more spending into their army's armored strike forces (T-80U, Al-Khalid, Type-88). Just thought I'd make a quick correction: Mig-29SMT is an unproven design with no credibility behind it. And it costs as much as a Mirage-2000. And it cannot be manufactured locally. <P>Mirage-2000, by the way, is not just for air superiority - this is a true multirole fighther, as was so aptly demo...

Well, if the IAF maintains its gaint fleet of some 400+ Mig-21's for the "foreseeable future" then it better plan on retiring at least one Mig-21 squadron each year, to make up for all the crashes. This will require constant reorganization, though. To give an idea of the crisis proportions...

pratyush k ojha - that's a very intriguing idea. India certainly has the expertise to completely remanufacture Mig-21's - they've been building them for years. Confusing about the Mirage-2000 pricing. On sat's post above, it shows the IAF paying $25 million for each Mirage-2000. In Div's post we see an $80 million price tag. In fact no matter how bad the Mig-21 situation gets, it's probably a sure thing the Mig-21-93 program will still go ahead anyway, simply because the deal was signed so long ago. How do you use a laser range finder if you don't have a viewer to aim it with? There has to be come kind of magnified IR or TV camera slaved to the laser, so you can see what you're lasing. By the way Fanne, with regards to hi-vs.-low altitude tactics, in practice I can guarantee you that the IAF would be better off staying at high altitude. Vikram Rathore - actually, the size ratio of IAF vs. PAF is about 1.5:1, that is 750 IAF combat aircraft vs. 500 PAF combat aircraft. So, apparently IAF pilots are getting more flying hours, at least on their own aircraft, but the vast amount of flying hours the PAF pilots get with the air fleets of...
