What if the Pakjabi General officer corps suddenly find themselves alone on the Waziri rock slopes ..... with the vultures circling above, and a hundred pairs of eyes peering at them over the ridges around them, and a hundred flashes of knives in the setting sun? Helicopter cover is no good at nigh...

The SS-N-2 used by IN to attack M/s PN Karachi & Co is a massive beast. I think it has a 450 kg warhead. Most modern AShM have a 150 kg warhead or so, which I too feel is not sufficient to sink a large ship. However a ship hit by a 150 kg warhead would be sufficiently damaged and will be out of...

Any ship is built to take a certain amount of damage. For eg,in commercial /cargo there must be enough reserve buoyancy so that the ship doesn't sink if a bulkhead gets penetrated and two adjacent holds are flooded. Similary, with double hull, certain allowances for keel damage and also side damage...

A hole in ships keel is far more dangerous to the ship than an explosion on deck. Its dangerous for sure.but I think that getting a hole in the side of the ship is far harder than say getting the superstructure or the runway/catapult etc which will put it out of work and need dock repair... There a...

Another thing which comes to my mind is that having a carrier with 14-16 a/c can be a problem.I dont mean to say that its useless, but it can very quickly turn into a liablilty. With that small no. of a/c its very hard to provide an effective 24 hour CAP thats number one.Ok still some amount of CAP is...

a couple of Sea Eagles hitting the Nimitz wont do much other than destroying a few ac on deck and closing ops for an hour until the junk is simply pushed overboard. See this type of analyses seems silly [no offence intended]. Number one..no report is saying that 2 jags penetrated the CAP barrier.Nu...

Okay, I need some more clarification. My original point was that since ARH AAMs have a radar transmitter (seeker?) that goes "on" in the terminal phase, won't it light up the target's RWR? OTOH, since the SARH missile does not emit any radio waves (no transmitting radar), how is the targe...

Thanks Pit. While we are on this topic I was wondering if someone could shed some light on this: Since SARH AAMs (R27 ERs for eg) are primarily guided to the target by the launch platform (such as the MKI), wouldn't they be more stealthy and likely to catch targets unaware since they don't have see...

You are probly right on those figures, however, different sites show different figures. Those are the official figures.Anywhere else doesnt count. And even those are achieved very rarely. Irrespective, giving the typhoon the benefit of the doubt and assuming similar detection times, the MKI probly s...

JCage, As an aside, what does the Wing Commander know about aircraft? Has he read books on armoured and mechanized warfare? Has he driven tanks in the Thar desert and Punjab? Re: LOCKING OUT ALTERNATIVE VIEWS?

Ajai Shukla response The views I present about the DRDO are the views they hold . Ask 9 out of 10 serving officers about the DRDO and you’ll hear the same thing. Really?I find it very hard to believe that.I happened to chat with an AVM and according to his opinion the IAF is looking to induct Tej...

Yup I would say good analysis.

Some reservations with the development of strategic landscape scenario where the links become a bit tenous...but otherwise very good all in all.Isnt it a nice feeling when all the blocks fall into place and your eyes widen in understanding....
