Re: India's Border Security with China and Pakistan-2020
Gentlemen & Ladies: 1. Have trust in India's military leadership. 2. The leadership will optimize for global objectives: long term goals not short term victories. Give them space 3. The media is full of agents with multiple loyalties. Do not let them run a psychological warfare. Listen but ignor...

Re: India's Border Security with China and Pakistan-2020
So far the area the Chinese are occupying is something which is hard for the IA to defend. The traingular area in Galwan or the Fingers 5-8 are hard to reach for India. The challenge for IA is that the longer the waiting game goes, the more reinforcements the Chinese will be able to bring in, weaken...

Re: India's Border Security with China and Pakistan-2020
Pangong Tso is the last place to be caught be surprise. You can easily see the fingers from the other shore or the lake. Question is whether IA had the political clearance to stop the PLA from construction or whether it is an area they could hold given the resupply situation. PLA constructed the ro...

Re: India's Border Security with China and Pakistan-2020
The fact that we weren't caught by surprise (unlike at Pangong Tso), and didn't back down in trying to get the Chinese out suggests both active surveillance by IA as well as (possibly) intel effectiveness. Pangong Tso is the last place to be caught be surprise. You can easily see the fingers from t...

Re: India's Border Security with China and Pakistan-2020
I think the Chinese want India to fire the first shot, so that they can paint us as the aggressor India doesn't want to provide the Chinese the moral fig leaf that we broke the border agreement on the non-use of firearms. As a well entrenched defender, it suits us to delay any action and watch the ...

Re: India's Border Security with China and Pakistan-2020
Assuming India will move away from strategic independence, the first step would be to get a detachment of aircraft with better stealth/sensors to help IAF. They don’t have to shoot but can help spring a surprise.
Also more precision ammo and guns if needed.
And get the Indian MIC churning!

That was a wonderful post Ravi. Looking forward to the part/2. It’s also clear that India has to treat the PA as an extension of the PLA; in fact they may have to do the work in the trenches. In any conflict, especially with a adversary like the Chinese, deception is important. It is clear that India's primary goal was to get the 10 captured soldiers back. That is done successfully. @manjgu: Smart weapons too need accurate targeting; including continuous lighting up of the target. Don't worry about this video its probably not related. Last time I saw it was updated on 26feb, while the engagement happened on 27th feb. One thing to keep in mind is that A/D is a layered effort. Not every inch can be protected by a CAP cover and that is why the Ground based SAMs are important in providing cover to vital installations. Another big takeaway is that numbers matter. The twitter video which shows both the white puffs from the F-16, and the second explosion (Mig21) shows the contrails of the weapon which hit the 2nd aircraft.
And given the structural integrity of the Mig21 it was not a direct hit but a proximity hit.
