Re: Discussion on Indian Epics, Texts, Treatises & Kathas

There is nothing Chanakian about wagering your wife and watch her being molested publicly while she is in her menses and wearing a single garment. It would have been Chanakian if having lost himself, Yudhishthira would have refused from wagering Droupadi saying that as a slave he was no one's master...

Re: Discussion on Indian Epics, Texts, Treatises & Kathas

While the question of morality is raised, it is not put forward as the main argument. Droupadi herself repeatedly asks the audience to tell her whether she is a slave or not. Very disturbing. It appears that masters were well within their rights to do whatever with their slaves.

Re: Discussion on Indian Epics, Texts, Treatises & Kathas

Am reading Bibek Debroy's unabridged Engligh translation of Mahabharata. Thought of sharing what I read on the first game of dice. Yudhisthira stakes the pandavas and then himself in the game of dice and loses. Having thus become slave to Duryodhana, he then stakes Droupadi. Droupadi argues that sin...

Re: Personal Health, Nutrition and Fitness Thread

Dear Darshhan, Thanks a lot for your reply. My brother is suffering from depression. He is on prozac for over 3 years now. It started suddenly 5 years back. There was no traumatic incident, physical or otherwise, that triggered it. The medicines helped initially, but he says that for the past couple...

Re: Camera and Photography Thread -III

I am looking to buy a compact point and shoot digital camera. Have been buying Canon more out of force of habit rather than any appreciation of technicalities. So, am considering Canon SX220 HS (dont feel the need for a GPS provided in SX230 HS). Is this a good camera? Or is there a better one in th...

I know Hindus, in general, don't like the idea of conversion: but I would ask everyone to think deeply as to what the alternative is. I know Hindus, in general, don't dislike the idea of reconversion to Hinduism: of all fellow bharatvasis lost to islam and christianity. In any case, whats the point...

The idea is to support a vocal combative minority against an assertive majority with the idea to create instability in a region. It's horses for courses policy. the main motivations for their actions are purely geo-strategic and I dare say even Satanic. Although they couch it in very noble terms. N...
