^^ Typically there are 18 guns per regiment (6 guns per battery -> 3 batteries in a regiment).
Therefore, 9 regiments = 162 guns

Err, can we get back to topic pls?
Interesting article. However, it doesn't mention about whether the Army is going to order more 45 calibre upgrades/ new production and if yes, by when?

^^ It cannot be simplified to light weight +30 km issue. Ask an infantry man what will he chose if he had an option to pick the calibre of the gun firing at him... There is absolutely no comparison between a 155mm shell and a 105mm shel The sheer volume of explosive is huge to make it a BIG BIG diff...

Re: Indian Army : News and Discussion
As the days are going by, its becoming more and more evident that firstly this Govt. has too many shameless and vindictive people in its midst. Secondly, VKS should have had a better game plan - most important rule is that you fight to win. No glory ever for the loser, especially when dealing with s...

Has Lt. Gen. Bikram Singh served in Armoured Corps? The color of his turban is black in the photograph on Livefist http://livefist.blogspot.in/2012/03/lt-gen-bikram-singh-is-indias-next-army.html . I know I know he is from Sikh LI but a black turban also denotes Armoured since Infantry officers wear...

Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread - Jan 12, 2012
It may sound very dumb asking these questions CJ, but still going ahead with them: a) So if we get the Mk2 as per the specs, IA will order more Arjuns? b) Mk3 is more as a logical extension of Mk2, or that IA is OK with Mk2 with the condition of Mk3 coming up? Have seen enough posts and counterposts...

Re: Artillery Discussion Thread
Thanks tsarkar for the info. However, don't think there has been some ToT for a 52 calibre in recent past else am sure there would have been some news leak happening on that front Ae we sure that 45 calibre was a failed attempt by OFB since CJ's news says that the 39 and 45 calibre will be tested by...

If they get this right it surely calls for a lungi dance!! Me thinks, the Field Arty Rationalization Plan should standardize the Field Arty Regiments on this and look for phoren goodies only for the more specialist roles - tracked, light-weight, etc.Snehashis wrote:100 made-in-India Bofors artillery guns

A newbie question - how many aircrafts are allocated per IN fighter squadrons? Do these # vary if they are deployed on a carrier? From a tactics point of view, would the # be different if they are attack aircrafts Vs. air superiority aircrafts?

An informed source in the DRDO said that although the interceptor used in this mission was capable of intercepting missiles coming from 300 to 2,000 km away, India needed ship-based platforms for launching interceptors far away from the shore . “We are planning to realise such platforms in the near...
