That's why they're also building upgraded versions of the J-10. Single engined and a big enough airframe do a lot. F-16'ish analogue.

The Mk1A contract was fine. Except it took the MoD, IAF and HAL multiple years to come to a consensus. That is the real issue here. If we do the same circus for the Mk2, nobody can help us.

Studies have already been done on what the MKI can field. In terms of power availability, space, weight, thermal limits etc. As for weapons integration, KaranM knows that stuff better than most in the open domain. So i'll ask him to shed some light if he can.

Re: Su-30MKI: News and Discussion - 24 July 2021

Getting an Indian radar on the MKI is the plan. Would be interesting to see if the Russian side resists this. One would think that any IAF/MOD funded AESA work will have huge financial implications for them given the Flanker installed base. So it is in their interest to push a Russian AESA to the M...

No. Everything except the ammo situation (maybe even that) makes absolute sense. We bought the gun and nothing else. We use our own equipment to fit them out. Calling it jugaad is just silly. If this is actually true, there really isn't much to say anymore. Cleanse the ranks that are involved and push the ATAGS. There is far more at stake here than just a few tens of pieces of artillery. Especially at this time when COVID has ravaged the country and economic activity is priority #1.
