We have to be very careful about the ASQRs that may be given for the 5th gen a/c now. Like in case of Arjun, we may later find that the PAF's runways are not designed to operate our a/c later and it will lead to loss of a lot of money.

I don't think I'll be spared for saying this but it is understandable that waiting for the TOT acceptance for GE-F414 by Senate was a good idea. We lost a year in R&D (and HAL could have funded from its internal funds like it did earlier), but I am quite sure GoI forced 97+ Mk1A using the delay,...

What is the *potential* capacity for each line? Is it just 8 or is it limited to 8 because of the order size? Because 8 per line per year seems anemic Granted, HAL is no Lockheed Martin, but the rollout rate of F-35s in Fort Worth is 184 per year About 3,000 F-35s are ordered and 184/yr is achieved...

Just a muse here. If I remember correctly, the trainers are still Mk1 FOC standard. If the new order of 97 is also for replacement of Jaguars, then it would be nice if we can develop a Mk1a version of two-seaters optimised for ground attack. It's already a top performer for ground attack. What more...

These are projects going on in parallel rather than in sequential order which is good. There is nothing unusual about it as we have many building blocks already in place, and have enough trained manpower for the task.

It does not matter how many bids (by vendors) are received in case of a 2-bid tender. If there was no tender, there is no necessity for 2-bids. Minor hiccups can be expected for the Mk1As, that would not be surprising. It happened with FOC also. Once stabilized, it should be smooth as was the case with the Sukhoi production. My guess is that we will have 24/yr production rate. The price of the earlier 83 a/c was 6.5 B USD and for 100 it would be close to 7.83B - 8B (round off?). Performance of Mk1 can be inferred from Gripen C and development time may also be similar to that of Gripen-E. Could be faster, but one shouldn't be shocked if it turns out to be similar. I always liked the original proposal from HAL, to plugin GE-F414 in place of the F404. It would have given addit...
