ManishH I don't have any links, that book of Ilaiah is not online afaik. I will try to find you a reference for the Rajiv Gandhi foundation but its hard because remember this book was released 15 years back in 1996 when net penetration in India was negligent, so links or news reports will be hard to...

I agree SBajwa, its very possible that this was a genuine letter & not forged as the book authors suggest. Mughal court records do state that he was in communication with various Rajpur rajas and also that he was using his contacts among the bairagis to spy on the Mughals. The Mughals after a wh...

paaniya is also a sanskrit word used in the sense of a general drink but also water sometimes. In Telugu paaniyam is used for drink (whereas in many Northern languages it is used to mean water) and neeru for water specifically. For word origins use Platts and Shakespear dictionaries: http://dsal.uch...

Surasena - every example you gave is of re -conversion, ie, H -> M -> H. I am taking of first-time conversion. None of these parties represent the "secular essence" (word secular was inserted later by Indira Gandhi I might add) yet somehow they all end up rabidly anti Hindu, hmm interesting... What do you think of Rajiv Gandhi Foundation sponsoring Ilaiah's "Why I am not a Hindu"? "I...

Surasena ji, Political action should be guided by an inspired sense of creativity and discovery rather than anger, complaining and crying. First go and win the hearts of two Moslems before you demand to be given back two plots of land for demolished brick-and-mortar temples. And how do you propose ...

Re: A look back at the partition

There has to be a comprehensive spiritual, cultural and political movement to re-integrate and forge a new common identity, but one that clearly continues and extends the hoary legacy of the past. The work and mission of the Sikh Gurus, for example, provides a lot of food for thought, though IMHO t...

And the concept of conversion to Hinduism was never present in Hinduism. The only Hindu re-conversion efforts were started in the 19th and 20th century by Swami Shraddhanand http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swami_Shraddhanand but this was never an ancient or medieval practice. Yes both are IE languages but not all the words are the same.

Avestan was closer to Sanskrit than modern Farsi.

Anyway don't want to go OT, can discuss in another thread if you have any more questions.

Ok, if it is DMK, request you to name them specifically. No point clubbing all woes under broad banner of "secularism". DMK is more like an atheist, casteist outfit. The tendency to paint things with broad brushes does no credit - whether it is calling terror as "saffron" terror...
