The number of tanks in a Pakistani armd regt is as follows :-<BR>1. A sabre tp has 3 x tanks<BR>2. A sabre sqn has 13 x tanks<BR> 4 x 3 tk tps<BR> 1 x control tank, used by the sqn comdr<BR>3. An armd regt has 41 tanks<BR> 3 x 13 tank sqns<BR> 2 x command tanks, CO and 2IC

The Pakistani Inf Div has 3 x Inf Bdes not just 2.

Pakistan does not have a third armd div. They have in the last 3 years raised 2 more indep armmd bdes. But an armd div ? Indep arms bdes are more their style nowadays.

The difference between the mech inf hvy a/tk units and the mech inf lt a/tk units is that whereas the former fire their ATGMs from M-113 APCs the latter use jeeps as their weapon platforms.

Any discussion of the Pak ORBAT must take into consideration their para military forces which are much more effective than ours,better led,better trained and better motivated. What can one expect from our police-officer led forces like the BSF and the ITBP?

The DG Joint Services co-ordinates planning and functions under the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee currently Gen Musharraf. The Joint Services HQ is at Chaklala a short distance from Rawalpindi.

The Shawal Rifles are a para-military force for border security like our BSF but better trained,equipped and led. They form part of the Frontier Corps(NWFP).

I've learnt from reliable sources that the PA has recently raised 2 new indep armd bdes, namely 11&13. There have been no new raisings of armd regts but withdrawal of some units from over-strength bdes like 3 at lahore has enabled the PA to utilise these for the new bdes.
