Every autumn on the mountainous Karakoram Highway, part of the ancient Silk Road, groups of Pakistani merchants living in China's far west would wave goodbye to their Chinese wives and cross the border to spend winter in their home country.

As the snow piled high, the men would stay in touch with their families by phone, longing for the spring thaw that would allow them to be reunited in Xinjiang.

"Uighur wives" would be left on their own while the baki moved back to warmer climate? Looks like the bakis have *warmers* on both sides of the border. Why else would they leave the Uighur women behind especially during winters?

Attack In Dera Ghazi Khan Leaves Three "Terrorists" Dead !

Pakistan continues to defeat terrorism
News Desk -
March 26, 2018
Three terror suspects were shot dead by Pakistan Rangers in the early hours of Monday, the 26th of March. The paramilitary troops were carrying out a raid in Sakhi Sarwar town of the district Dera Ghazi Khan. When the suspects saw the troops, they opened fire. The rangers returned fire and shot the terrorists dead. One ranger was injured with gunshot wounds.
A remote controlled bomb, a suicide vest, some arms and ammunition were recovered at the site, according to sources.
The raid in Dera Ghazi Khan is a reminder that the threat of terrorism still lurks. Even though major urban center are not being attacked anymore the way they used to be, militants still hide out in remote areas. It is likely that security forces will have to carry out more such raids in the near future as well. For the long haul, constant vigilance will ensure peace and security in the country. Rest of the "farticle" praises the fauj and how Pakistan is winning the war against "terrorism" !

They have the God given right to enjoy 4 young wives at a time. Older ones can be divorced and allowed to care for themselves and multiple offspring.

Senseless Killing Like This Is Likely To Happen More And More In Pakistan !

Man axes his four children to death in Gujrat
The Express Tribune
A man axed to death four of his very own children in Gujrat’s Saraye Alamgir area on Sunday, Express News reported.According to police, Ayub, the accused, killed three of his sons along with his daughter in the Sayeen Dera neighbourhood. The father has been taken into custody as well as the murder weapon used to commit the act, authorities say.
The victims have been identified as Amana, 12, Nadia, 10, Ayesha, 8, and Zeeshan, 3.
The father is believed to be mentally challenged and suffers from fits of rage. Local police have started registered a case and an investigation is underway.
On March 24, a similar incident took place in Lahore in which three children were strangled to death by their mother. The mother was arrested along with her friend. This is a warning sign to Paki Govt authorities that the condition of the distressed awaam can no longer be ignored . Just feeding them "The Opium Of Malsi" to the exclusion of everything else is not the answer !

Pakistan defence ministry rejects Pervez Musharraf's security plea

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan government has rejected former dictator Pervez Musharraf's request for security on returning to the country to face a special court trying him on treason charges, according to a media report.

The Ministry of Defence has conveyed to the Dubai-based former president through his counsel that providing him security is not its job, the Dawn newspaper reported.

In a letter written to Musharraf's counsel Akhtar Shah, the ministry said "provision of security in the subject case does not fall under the purview of Ministry of Defence", according to the report.

The 74-year-old retired Army general has been living in Dubai since last year when he was allowed to leave Pakistan on the pretext of medical treatment.

He was indicted in March, 2014 on treason charges for imposing emergency in 2007 in the country which led to the confinement of a number of superior court judges in their houses and sacking of over 100 judges.

He has been declared "proclaimed offender" by courts in the treason and the Benazir Bhutto assassination cases.

He is the first general to face trial for treason in Pakistan's history and if convicted, he could be given life imprisonment or the death penalty.

An application was moved on behalf of Musharraf on March 13 that the former president be provided security by the ministry of defence on his return to Pakistan.

"His team contends that he faces serious security threats," it said.

However, responding to a similar application, the Interior Ministry had earlier assured Musharraf of security and also sought his travel plan and details of stay in Pakistan. The details have not been shared with the interior ministry so far, the report said.

"We are still working on the details and will make the decision public once there is something final," All Pakistan Muslim League leader Muhammad Amjad, a close aide of Musharraf, was quoted as saying by Dawn.

On March 21, he convened a meeting of his aides in Dubai on to decide the future course of action but the meeting remained inconclusive.

The Islamabad High Court had last month ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to investigate Musharraf over charges of accumulating assets beyond his known means of income.

Paki Federal Investigation Agency ( AKA F.I.A ) Exposes "Pakistanayat" Of Civil Servants :D

210 civil servants concealed dual nationalities from govt
ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) informed the Supreme Court on Monday that a total of 210 civil servants had concealed their dual nationality status.FIA Director General Bashir Memon further told the three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar that 291 officers had concealed the dual nationality of their spouses and that the list includes seven foreign nationals who work for Pakistan’s civil service. The figures appear to be highly underestimated, at least, IMO. ! Secondly, it does not include high level politicos, high level fauji officers, and their spouses, siblings, sons and daughters. At least one important politician in Ganja ex cabinet- with ties to the fauj- is known to possess two passports along with his spouse . :D
The SC subsequently ordered the issuance of notices to 147 officials of the federal government who had concealed their dual nationality, six who are foreign nationals and 291 who had hidden their wives’ dual nationality. Dual nationality passport is like insurance . Just in case, things go south in Pakiland
There is no specific law barring dual nationals from serving in government departments, but the court believes that maintaining allegiance to a foreign country could constitute a conflict of interest. The apex court rulings suggest that it could call for legislation in this respect. Most likely, the loophole is deliberate, so all these corrupt politicians, corrupt military officers, corrupt industrialists, corrupt civil servants and sundry other corrupts can easily leave a "sinking ship" ( ie Pakistan )

NAB decides to place Ali Jahangir Siddiqui on ECL
ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) decided to place Ali Jahangir Siddiqui’s on the Exit Control List (ECL).The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by NAB Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal on Monday.NAB also decided to initiate inquiry against former premier Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar for allegedly owning assets disproportionate to his income.A press release issued by the bureau stated that it would probe Safdar’s assets, especially a 300 kanal land, a 30 kanal plot and a 1 kanal house in Mansehra. In addition, the anti-graft body would also investigate a floor mill in Township, Mansehra held by Safdar.NAB has also decided to probe Rs nine billion allegedly given illegally to Safdar by the cabinet division under the Prime Minister’s Global Sustainable Development Goals Program.
The meeting also gave approval for inquires against two companies involved in corruption, namely Ease Gardens Nine and Agri Tech Limited and recommended writing a letter to Ministry of Interior to place Ali Jahangir Siddiqi and Ahmed Humayun Sheikh on the ECL. One by one, all exits are being closed for Ganja Sharif, his supporters including the current PM and both of their extended family and their circle of close friends. ( Siddiqui is a close friend of PM Abbasi !)

Report on Pakistanis’ foreign bank accounts due in three weeks
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) has given a three-week deadline to the 13-member committee, constituted to trace and retrieve assets from abroad, for submitting a report regarding Pakistani citizens’ wealth in foreign banks. As if the "mere ordering" by the court will bring back the much needed foreign exchange !
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar had taken a suo motu notice of foreign bank accounts held by Pakistani citizens on February 1. The three-member SC bench, that also comprises Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Ijazul Ahsan, had asked the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to inform the court what steps it had taken regarding the matter of offshore companies after the release of the Panama Papers and Paradise Papers, which revealed details of wealth stored abroad by Pakistani citizens. Does Pakistan possess the legal, technical and negotiable expertise that is involved in such a complicated and huge project, considering the secrecy laws and the maze of shell companies that masks such hidden wealth !
The TORs also include examining existing legal regime and practices; bilateral treaties and multilateral conventions that be used to stem the unregulated outflow of foreign exchange from Pakistan, tracing of undeclared assets held abroad by Pakistani citizens and retrieve such assets especially ones generated with proceeds of crime. Then there is also the question of the integrity of the persons responsible for such a task ? Would they be available for sale
The committee guidelines also suggest forming a mechanism to incentivise Pakistani citizens to voluntarily declare their assets held abroad and bring them back to Pakistan or pay a suitable amount of taxes if they intend to keep such assets abroad so that they could contribute to the national exchequer.

Paki Editorial Asks Gen. Bajwa To Clarify His So-Called "Bajwa Doctrine"

The ‘Bajwa doctrine’
The existence of the purported doctrine was first mentioned by DG ISPR Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor earlier this year. Now, following a briefing by army chief Gen Qamar Bajwa to a group of journalists and anchorpersons, it has been indirectly revealed to the country as the so-called Bajwa doctrine.
First, it is a welcome move by Gen Bajwa to speak to the media. His predecessor, retired Gen Raheel Sharif, was all too visible in public-relations campaigns, but opted not to address the media or answer questions. Given the pre-eminent position the army chief has in the national security, and also political, framework, the holder of the office should face the media and answer questions.
Bajwa decided to use his propangandu vehicle (ISPR) to announce His Doctrine !
Perhaps Gen Bajwa ought to consider making his media interactions more formal ... Press conference is being requested :D
Second, because Gen Bajwa’s comments were neither recorded nor publicly broadcast, there is some confusion about the words he chose and the sentiments he expressed. A clarification would not just be welcome, but arguably essential because of the controversy the quotes attributed to him have stirred. No Paki General has said "good words" about Paki politicians and Bajwa is no exception !
The transition to democracy is headed towards a third consecutive on-time election, but the democratic project is obviously in some kind of danger. In an environment of such uncertainty, it does not help for an army chief to have remarks attributed to him that can be perceived in democratic quarters as questioning the legitimacy and substance of democracy here. Paki "democracy" is a "sham" . Bajwa knows it, Ganja has suffered from it and the other politicos ( Immy and Dus Percenti) are already in the Army's pocket
That positive message should not be obscured by controversy over other remarks pertaining to the 18th Amendment or an unprompted expression of support for the superior judiciary. Perhaps Gen Bajwa can clarify the proper context of all remarks attributed to him. Gentle "reminder" to the jernail . :D
Third, the military as an institution should recognise that for democracy to survive and deepen in the country, all institutions must remain within their constitutional domains. Including the military !
Military input in national security and foreign policy is overwhelming, Military "decides" foreign policy vis-a-vis India, China, USA, UK, Afghanistan, Russia , Iran, Saudia and other countries as well
Economic policy, centre-province relations and governance matters, however, are civilian domains. Improvement in all those areas is desirable, but it must flow through constitutional channels . Fauj provides information to MNA members and the Aam Abduls on a "need to know" basis. They are final "deciders" of what is good and what is not good for the Paki nation

Musharraf defers his return to Pakistan: sources
ISLAMABAD: Former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf has deferred his return to Pakistan over security concerns after Ministry of Defence refused to provide him security on his possible arrival to face the treason case being prosecuted in a special court here, sources said.Sources said Pervez Musharraf has apprised his close comrades in Pakistan about his decision to postpone his return.Meanwhile, Musharraf’s counsel Akhtar Shah has said that they could not trust Ministry of Interior for the security of his client, adding that till adequate security measures he could not advice the former president to return to Pakistan. Maybe, it was never meant for him to return. ! Let us see if his passport is not renewed and his CNIC card cancelled !

IMO They have the Bums but do they have the Codes? Pakistan's Pashtuns Find New 'Frontier Gandhi'
A veterinary student from Pakistan's militancy-hit tribal areas, Manzoor Pashteen did not appear to be destined for the national stage.
But the 26-year-old has become a rising celebrity as the leader of a new protest movement advocating for the rights of Pakistan's Pashtun minority.
Pashteen's rise has seen him compared by his followers to the "Frontier Gandhi," the moniker given to Abdul Ghaffar Khan, better known as Bacha Khan, who led a nonviolence campaign for greater rights for his fellow Pashtuns in the British Raj in the early 20th century. Speaking to RFE/RL's Radio Mashaal in a Skype interview, Pashteen echoed Bacha Khan's message.
"We believe in nonviolence," Pashteen said. "We are not using aggressive language and have no intention of resorting to violence." "Now it is up to the government whether they let us use our right to peaceful protest or use violent means against us," added Pashteen, who hails from South Waziristan, part of the Pashtun-dominated Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) straddling the border with Afghanistan. "The choice is the government's."
Pashtuns make up the majority of recruits and members of Pakistani-based militant groups such as the Afghan Taliban, the Haqqani network, and the Pakistani Taliban. The former extremist outfits have carried out deadly attacks against Afghan and international forces in neighboring Afghanistan, while the latter has carried out sectarian attacks against religious minorities and waged an insurgency against Pakistani government troops. The Pakis are waging a war against the Pushtuns and there is a media blackout inside FATA !
Pashteen's Pashtun Protection Movement made national headlines when he led thousands of people from the tribal areas and northwest Pakistan to the capital, Islamabad, in February. The rally, ignited by the killing of a young Pashtun shopkeeper in an allegedly staged gunbattle with police in the port city of Karachi, stirred up long-held grievances among Pashtuns. And the killer, a Pakjabi Police Officer is being "protected" by high ranking officials of the Deep State !
"The government is not serious at all," says Pashteen. "We informed the authorities that some people in the army and [intelligence] agencies are terrorizing our people. Instead of initiating action against those elements, the government and agencies filed police cases against us."
Afrasiab Khattak, a former senator and analyst, says Pashteen's efforts have spurred a "spontaneous movement that has overtaken political parties.""Traditional tribal structures have broken down by violence imposed on the area," says Khattak. "A number of local leaders have been killed and others are displaced. Young activists like Manzoor Pashteen are filling this vacuum." But Pashteen's critics suggest there are ulterior motives behind the movement.
"Pashtuns constitute the second-largest group in federal government ministries and the armed forces," says Imtiaz Gul, who heads the Islamabad-based Center for Research and Security Studies. "So, I don't understand what rights he is talking about." Gul, a Pathan himself is a self styled security analyst !
Many Pashtuns allege they have been the targets of the Pakistani Army and intelligence services, which have an oversized role in the South Asian country. Pashtuns in FATA live under colonial-era laws that punish an entire tribe for the crime of an individual, jail residents for up to three years without cause, and forcibly relocate people and have their property searched and seized.Pashteen is mobbed by supporters during rallies. Many embrace him and his younger fans emulate his attire -- shalwar kameez with a colorful scarf and red-and-black hat. He says his ability to unite tens of thousands of people is not due to his charisma. "The magic is in the cause and the people who have stood with me," he says. If he is "made to disappear" or is arrested by the Deep State, there is sure going to be an uprising in Pakiland !

Gang Rape Allowed By Tribal Council In Pakjab

Rapist is let off for sexually attacking a woman after agreeing to allow his sister to be raped by his victim's brother in Pakistan
A shocking case of 'revenge rape' involving 12 members of two families has been unearthed by police in Punjab province, Pakistan.A man had been accused of raping a woman in Pir Mahal in the Toba Tek Singh district on March 20.Local news reports that the suspect's family had approached the victim's family for 'pardon and reconciliation'.
The victim's family agreed to pardon the rapist, on the condition that 'her brother would commit the same act with the suspect’s sister', dawn.com reports.A dozen people attending a meeting between the two families agreed to the terms, and the brother subsequently had sex with the suspect's sister on March 21.
A police officer found out about the case when the two families prepared legal documents agreeing not to press charges against each other. Pir Mahal Police Sub-Inspector Shaukat Ali Javed saw the and reported the families to his superiors.
All 12 people in attendance , including four women, of which one was the victim of the second rape, were arrested on Saturday. The case has echoes another incident in the southern city of Multan last July, where a village council ordered a 'revenge rape' on a 16-year-old girl. The girl's brother had sexually assaulted a 12-year-old, and the 'revenge rape' was reportedly carried out in front of her parents and 40 members of the village council.

Pakistan rupee plunges as central bank cuts support
Asia Times
The Pakistani rupee is at an all-time low after officials at the country’s central bank triggered a devaluation of the currency last week – the second in little over a quarter – leaving the rupee at 115.5 against the US dollar. The plunge signified a 4.4% fall on March 20, from Rs 110.5 the day before, after the currency dropped by 4.7% in December last year.
State Bank of Pakistan spokesperson Abid Qamar confirmed that the move was necessitated by “some payment pressures which are building within the market.” A central bank statement maintains that it now plans to let “market-driven adjustment in the exchange rate to continue to contain the imbalance in the external account and sustain a higher growth trajectory”. Lot of "buzz words" to mask the free fall of of the Pakistan Rupee
However, Miftah Ismail, the adviser to the prime minister on finance, revenue and economic affairs, has said that the value of the rupee would not “be allowed to go below 115 rupees”.
“We have halted it at Rs 115, which is where the market will settle in a day or two,” he said during a TV interview. “Although the money exchangers are carrying quite a big gap, the market will settle at Rs 115.”
Moody’s Investor Service said in July last year that the Pakistani rupee was 20% overvalued and urged the State Bank to stop keeping the currency at an artificial level. Government officials maintain that the plunge in the value of the rupee will actually benefit the current account deficit, by helping increase exports ( what exports !) now that the rupee is approaching a truer value.
However, as the government sells devaluation as a long-term strategy, and the central bank cites market pressures, traders and financial analysts aren’t buying these claims.
Sources within the central bank have told Asia Times that the absence of ‘foreign grants’ has also undermined the rupee. “The currency has been overvalued for a while, payment pressures do not build up all of a sudden. This pressure has been mounting for months, but the state hasn’t been able to get one of our usual friends at the international arena to buy out our troubles,” one source revealed.Shahab Jafry, a former Middle East Correspondent for Pakistan Today and analyst at FX Empire, said a key factor has been a drop in Saudi grants, which has reduced the central bank’s reserves and capacity to intervene in the market. IMO, the Saudis will ultimately oblige.
Former caretaker finance minister Salman Shah agrees that lack of foreign support has aggravated Pakistan’s currency crisis, which has resulted in a current account deficit of $10 billion.
“If you have a large trade deficit, which translates into a large current account deficit, there are two ways to finance it: foreign investments, and loans from international capital markets or donors. If this isn’t available, then the rupee is under immense pressure,” he said to Asia Times. “Since Miftah saab has said that we won’t be going into the capital market, the other option the SBP has to perhaps buy out dollars from overseas Pakistanis. And of course, bilateral engagements could help the reserves as well – the likeliest being Chinese support.” "Rich China" will also oblige, IMO !
“Considering that Saudi Arabia and China backed out from supporting Pakistan at the FATF meeting in Paris shows that they do not feel it is in their interest to deal with Pakistan, diplomatically or financially,” Lieutenant General Talat Masood, a former secretary of Pakistan’s Ministry of Defense Production, told Asia Times. The General could be wrong on that score . !
Discussing Venezuela’s case, Salman Shah maintained that while there are absolutely no parallels, Pakistan would have to address its depleting reserves, to ensure the rupee doesn’t undergo a similar free fall.
“It depends on the current account deficit and if it deteriorates. As things stand it can be financed through loans by the World Bank or other countries. But if there is no borrowing window and reserves continue to decline, things could get worse obviously,” he said. :D

Lahore Services Hospital is otherwise famous for having a block named after Mohammadden by name of Ilm Ud Din who was tried, convicted and executed for murdering Hindu publisher Mahesh Rajpal in an act defended by Mohammad Ali Jinnah; an example that came to haunt the Mohammadden Terrrorism Fomenting Islamic Republic of Pakistan when Punjab Province Governor was Bull Cutlletted ie. declared Wajib Ul Qatal and killed.

Marvia Malik - Pakistan TV airs first transgender anchor
BBC Urdu, Islamabad
26 March 2018
A Pakistani news channel has hired the country's first transgender TV newsreader.Marvia Malik, a journalism graduate who has also worked as a model, told the BBC she was moved to tears when she was offered the job.She anchored her first show on private broadcaster Kohenoor on Friday, after three months of training.Transgender people face discrimination in Pakistan and many struggle to find employment. Some are forced into begging, dancing or prostitution to earn money. The "other" side of fundamental Pakistan . Two opposite "visions". To be fair, equal media time should also be "offered" by BBC to the Islam Brigade. Their "point of view" is also important
Ms Malik told the BBC she had to stop herself from screaming with joy when she learned she had got the job."The dream that I saw for myself, I was able to climb on the first stair to achieving it," she said. She said she hoped her work would help improve the lives of Pakistan's transgender community. How long will this "novelty" lasts . Hope she has sort of a long term, iron-clad contract with Kohenoor !
"Our community should be treated equally and there must not be any gender discrimination. We should be given equal rights and be considered ordinary citizens, instead of third-gender."
She added: "My family knows I have modelled and they know that I work as a newscaster. It's the age of social media and there's nothing that my family doesn't know. But they have still disowned me." social embarrassment ? ostracizing by the relatives ?
The owner of Kohenoor, Junaid Ansari, told VOA news that Ms Malik had been selected on merit, not on gender issues
Earlier this month, Pakistan's Senate voted to support a bill protecting the rights of transgender people, and allowing them to determine their own gender identity. In June 2016, a 23-year-old transgender activist died after delays in receiving medical treatment. Alisha, who was shot eight times, was in critical condition when admitted to hospital but staff could not decide whether to put her in a male or female ward, according to her friends. Attitudes take a long time to change. ! At least a "first step" has be taken . THE MULLAH BRIGADE SHOULD BE INTERVIEWED FOR THEIR REACTION TO THIS REVOLUTIONARY ANNOUNCEMENT

Paki Ayesha Warns That Imran's PTI Party Is A One -Man- Show And Is Doomed To Failure !

PTI's inconvenient truth
The Express Tribune > Opinion
Today, the PTI faces a far greater existential threat than the PML-N or the PPP because its future is tied to the fate of one man. The latter two will survive their current leadership because they have hereditary succession.
The consequent failure to enforce the rule of law and to democratise the party, a prerequisite for any organisation hoping to democratise a nation, has devastated party unity and discipline.
This lamentable absence of rules has enabled the PTI’s own version of carpetbaggers to take over the party, and institute a sort of ‘Billionaires’ Darwinism’. From ticket allocations to party positions, everything is decided unilaterally, using the central executive committee as a rubber stamp, undermining the democratic principles on which our  party was built. Where does the (new !) Pirni fall in all of this . Rumours are that Immy has made her, his "new confidante"
Imran often quotes Einstein’s definition of “Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” Sadly, Einstein isn’t around to tell him how many more electoral defeats the PTI must endure, before he re-aligns it with the vision that once galvanised millions. For now, Einstein turns in his grave, our opponents rejoice, and the PTI leadership dances to the tune of the Pied Piper. Or perhaps, they are just staggering in the dark. So, this Paki Ayesha is not able to sit at the power table with Immy and hence the angst

Khadim Rizvi Has Disappeared In Anticipation Of His Impeding Arrest !

Police teams sent to arrest Khadim Rizvi, others
ISLAMABAD: Police teams have left for different cities and towns of Punjab on an apparently impossible mission to arrest Tehreek-i-Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah leaders and activists nominated ( is this the right word ? ) in separate cases in connection with the Faizabad sit-in of last year.
As many as 28 cases have been registered against Khadim Hussain Rizvi and 480 other leaders and activists of the religious group in the police stations of Industrial Area, Kural, Khanna and Aabara ( ISI ) in Islamabad.
The trial courts, including the anti-terrorism court of Islamabad, have issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of the nominated people in 21 of the cases.
A senior police officer told Dawn that SSP Najeebur Rehman had constituted an eight-member team under the supervision of a deputy superintendent of the police for execution of the warrants, including arrest of the accused. No doubt, that the Deep State is going to protect them !
When contacted, SSP Najeebur Rehman said after issuance of the arrest warrants legal procedure had been started.

Even Cambodia Is Better Off Than Pakistan, With Reference To Foreign Exchange Reserves :D

Fastest Depleting Dollar Reserves in Asia to Slump Even Further
Bloomberg News
Pakistan is depleting its dollar reserves at the fastest pace in Asia and may soon have a buffer that’s smaller than Cambodia, an economy that’s less than a 10th of its size. Pakistan is an Atomi Taakat, Cambodia is not
Reserves have dropped by about a fifth in the past year to reach $13.5 billion in February, while in Cambodia they’ve increased a third to $11.2 billion in January, according to data from the International Monetary Fund. Pakistan’s reserves are expected to drop as much as $2.2 billion by June, according to Insight Securities Pvt. All saazish by western powers . Pakistan is all OK !
Pakistan is facing a balance of payments crunch. Its current-account deficit has ballooned by 50 percent in the past eight months to $10.8 billion, fueled by rising imports as the economy grows close to 5 percent and Chinese funders add new power plants. With reserves coming under pressure, authorities devalued the currency for the second time in four months last week.
“Your hot money capital inflows are not coming in. Real conditions of the economy are that exports are not picking up,” said Turab Hussain, head of the economics department at the Lahore University of Management Sciences. “Bangladesh are the ones that are a stronger economy now.” So, this Pakjabi economist admits that Bangladesh has become the second biggest "South Asian" economy - Pakistan relegated to third place
Once known as East Pakistan before being separated in 1971, Bangladesh’s reserves are now more than double those of Pakistan’s, with exports that exceed its South Asian counterpart. Both nations as well as Cambodia are competitors in global textile markets. But none of them have nuclear bums !
New Zealand and Kazakhstan are among other Asia Pacific countries with smaller economies but more reserves than Pakistan, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Ouch !
“There is no easy fix,” said Uzair Younus, a South Asia director at Washington-based consultancy Albright Stonebridge Group LLC. “The solution lies in improving the business climate” to attract greater foreign direct investment inflows and implementing reforms to make exports more competitive globally, he said. The solution lies in reducing your military expenditures and abandon your quest for = = with India :D

X Posted from the Pakistan Armed Forces News & Discussion thread to the ISI News and Discussions and Terroristan threads.

Journalist Kiran Nazish originating in the Mohammadden Terrorism Fomenting Islamic Republic of Pakistan reporting from the safety of the US and relative safety of Turkey writes in Vox that the Uniformed Jihadi’s of the Punjabi Dominated Military of the Mohammadden Terrorism Fomenting Islamic Republic of Pakistan are indulging in the practise of enforced disappearance of journalists.
Pakistan’s powerful and secretive security establishment — which ranges from its feared intelligence agency, the ISI, to the country’s military, which has carried out three coups since its inception in 1947 — has long used abductions to silence anyone who dares to question and expose their actions.
Back in 2015, I experienced the power of the country’s deep state firsthand.

In April, Sabeen Mahmud, a friend of mine and one of the country’s most prominent free speech activists, hosted a panel about disappearances in the country’s largest province, Balochistan. The Pakistani government is fighting a separatist uprising there of Baloch nationalists, and though accurate numbers are difficult to find, more than 20,000 people have reportedly gone missing. The same evening, after the panel concluded, Mahmud was shot and killed by unknown gunmen.

I wrote about her death for an Indian magazine and started receiving threats myself from agents with ISI, Pakistan’s infamous government intelligence agency. They repeatedly told me, both in person and over the phone, that I was going to be killed like my friend Sabeen, “and no one will find who did it.”

I also learned that killing one person and then using their death to generate more fear was a common tactic that the Pakistani intelligence agencies used against journalists. It leads to self-censorship, and it works almost every time.

I was no exception. Since the ISI threatened my life, I’ve been too afraid to live and report in Pakistan, and currently divide my time between New York and Turkey.
Pakistan’s military is waging a quiet war on journalists : As activists and journalists are kidnapped, entire regions of the country are going silent.

Pakistan defends nuclear safety record after US sanctions companies

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has defended its record on nuclear safety after the United States sanctioned seven Pakistani companies over alleged links to the nuclear trade, saying the suspicions over the companies should not be used to discredit it.

Ties between the United States and nuclear-armed Pakistan have frayed in recent years over Pakistan’s suspected support for Islamist militants waging war in Afghanistan, something Pakistani officials deny.

The US Bureau of Industry and Security, Commerce imposed sanctions on the Pakistani companies on March 22, placing them on its “Entity List”, making it harder for them to operate in the United States and do business with US companies.

The sanctions could complicate Pakistan’s bid to join the Nuclear Suppliers Group, a 48-nation club dedicated to curbing nuclear arms proliferation by controlling the export and re-transfer of materials that could foster nuclear weapons development.

Pakistan’s foreign office said many companies around the world are placed on the US commerce department’s Entity List, including businesses from countries that are part of the NSG, and the sanctions should not be politicised by Pakistan’s opponents.

“Pakistan’s efforts in the area of export controls and non-proliferation as well as nuclear safety and security are well known. Pakistan and U.S. have a history of cooperation in these areas,” the foreign office said in a statement late on Monday.

“We reject attempts by Pakistan’s detractors to exploit these listings to cast aspersions on Pakistan’s non-proliferation credentials.”

Pakistan applied to join the NSG in 2016 but little progress has been made.

The United States has been concerned about Pakistan’s development of new nuclear weapons systems, including small tactical nuclear weapons, and has been trying to persuade it to make a unilateral declaration of “restraint”.

The seven privately owned companies, which are little known in Pakistan, are accused of either being involved in “proliferation of unsafeguarded nuclear activities” or helping other Pakistani companies already on the Entity List.

Pakistani officials have in the past been accused of handing over nuclear secrets to North Korea. The government has denied the accusations.

A U.N. nuclear watchdog said in 2008 that a network around Pakistani scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan, lionized at home as the father of Pakistan’s atomic bomb, smuggled nuclear weaponization blueprints to Iran, Libya and North Korea and was active in 12 countries.

From Pakistani newspaper Express Tribune:

Nine Pakistanis make it to Forbes Asia's '30 Under 30'

The citizens of the Mohammadden Terrorism Fomenting Islamic Republic of Pakistan seem to be enjoying a stray bit of good news in that they claim to have had 9 on the Forbes Asia 30 under 30 list of 300 candidates; 7 on the other hand if one adjusts for Madrassah Maths and Sialkot Statistics and goes by Forbes themselves  (The Pakistanis Who Made Forbes' 30 Under 30 Asia 2018 List)

To take away some of that stray bit of good news let it be revealed that India topped the list this year with 65  :
Given that each of these countries is home to more than a billion people, it was not surprising to see India and China continue to dominate the list. This year, India came first with 65 nominations, while China took second spot with 59 honorees.
